You might have seen this. List of the matches given the worst negative marks by Meltzer. Some stinkers on here I'd long forgotten.

Judging Hogan/Andre on an technical scale is pointless. It was a spectacle.

Triple H vs Sarge was a decent street fight. Can see why Meltzer wouldn't like it, it's pretty methodical, maybe a bit overlong. Don't see how he could have hated it that much, though.

Aside from Michaels/Shamrock, I can't remember off the top of my head what else was on that show, but that likely wasn't even the worst match that night, let alone in the top x-worst-ever-list.

Hogan and Andre got one star upon second viewing.

About the only comment I want to make on the show after re-watching a video of it is that I was a little too hard on the Andre the Giant-Hulk Hogan main event. It was a bad match to be sure and from an aesthetic viewpoint Andre had no business being in the ring, however Hogan did work hard. Negative four stars was an unfair rating. Looking at it again, it probably deserved one star simply because Hogan was trying hard

Its still a mental rating for perhaps the most famous match ever. The divas matches get better ratings than that.

Agreed. If it was dressage, ballet or figure skating then you could understand why he'd be so hard on it going by the reasons he gave. Total rubbish though. On a man's man of a scale it would be +5 stars any day of the week. Like you said ian, it's probably the most famous match ever and there can't be a clip that's ever been replayed more times than the slam?

Don't like Meltzer much, but surely he'd have a mind to give -5 to that match at Victory Road with Sting and Jeff Hardy completely off his tits to the point it's certain we'll never him in WWE again because of it. Terrible end to an equally terrible PPV.

There are three Rick Rude matches there which look decent on paper. What's the story there? Was he prone to have a right shitfest now and then or did he piss in Meltzer's coffee?

I can't speak for the others, but Rude v Jake Roberts was an utter snoozefest draw with most of the match comprised of wristlocks.

The rating for Hogan/Andre is idiotic and stinks of him being contrarian for the sake of it. It wasn't physically good but if wrestling was judged by that, WrestleMania would be headlined by Adrian Neville in a spotfest with Teddy Hart. Hogan and Andre worked the crowd brilliantly and it's a testament to how good their performance was that the match is still fondly remembered after so long. A match like Hogan/Warrior from WMVI should be ***** but going by Meltzer's opinion, it was slightly above average...so yeah, who cares what Meltzer thinks? His newsletter is brilliant, he has great sources but his opinion is wrong.

To be fair, while Rick Rude was awesome when on I don't think there was many worse on the nights he wasn't feelkng it. There's very little in wrestling more boring than Rick Rude having a bad night.
