Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted April 30, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2014 He should have his own pissin' thread anyway. Terrible news about his passing away today. Â The obvious answers to this are Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Long Good Friday or Mona Lisa, which are all brilliant. Â But Brazil and The Honorary Consul are just as good in my opinion. I quite liked Heart Condition and Shattered as well. Great actor with more variety to his work than I think most people realise.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted April 30, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2014 Oh, for fucks sake, didn't realise he died. Horrible news. Â Cant look past Who Framed Rodger Rabbit, I'm afraid. I remember being gobsmacked watching it when I was a kit. Still a brilliant film. He was the original choice for the lead in Buster. He'd have been great in that.
Paid Members chokeout Posted April 30, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2014 His best performance has to be The Long Good Friday. It's a testament to his skill that he wasn't typecast in that sort of role for the rest of his career. Â His best film I'd have to go for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, one of those films that just mixed everything so perfectly. I remember seeing one of those behind the scenes featurettes they used to to show on Saturday afternoons on Movies, Movies, Movies or Hollywood Magic and it blew my mind that they were using a robot to do stuff and drawing over it. Became obsessed with it after that. Not many guys could get away being so deadpan in a role like that, shame we never got that sequel

Loki
The Long Good Friday, is the short answer. Â But he's one of those actors who's good even in average/bad films and therefore make them watchable. He's good in Mermaids, he was good in Unleashed. he was excellent in Nixon and Enemy At The Gates. Last Orders was also very watchable.
Keith Houchen
I'd forgotten about him in Nixon, good shout.
Paid Members Jaffa Posted April 30, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2014 The answer is Hook, he's bloody wonderful in that. Â Nobody said ''Allo!" like Bob Hoskins. I've tried to imitate his delivery at the end of Hook for years.

patiirc
Aside from what has been mentioned, I thought he was excellent in Hollywoodland as the MGM exec. and in The Street as the pub landlord. He was a very versatile actor who could do comedy, serious, and menacing. Â Out of those already mentioned I liked his performace in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Unleashed, and as Kruschev in Enemy at the Games. Â He's also really creepy in the film where he watches TV chefs constantly whilst trying to make himself a better cook, and befriends a runaway but I've completely forgotten the name of it. Â SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read Kills himself with a pair of tights at the end. Â
Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted May 2, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted May 2, 2014 "Mona Lisa" is a bloody cracking film. Hoskins played his part so well as foil for the very sleazy Michael Caine character. Â He was the original choice for the lead in Buster. He was. He narrated bits from the film on the song "Just for Money" by Paul Hardcastle. Hardcastle's soundtrack was also scrapped. Phil Collins was far from being first choice.
