Sphinx
I'm gonna level with you - I know next to nothing about World of Sport. My only real experience is through watching some on TWC, though I'd usually turn over for something else at that point. When I did watch though, I'd sometimes really enjoy how slick the holds and selling were. As a wannabe wrestler, I'd try to fathom out some of the sequences and how they got it so slick. I also got a kick out of some of the storytelling and thr drama towards the end of a fall. Â However, that's about as far as it goes for me. I never really chased it up after it was off of TWC. I downloaded a Dynamite Kid pack, a Johnny Saint pack and a Mark Rocco pack but didn't watch most of it. Those names to me are famous names in the British circuit. I'm interested in matches that are 'must see' in terms of their standing in history, context etc. and lesser known gems, perhaps from lesser known wrestlers. Anything that's a good introduction to World of Sport really. Â I know there are a lot of fans on here, and there seems like a real lack of discussion of this on a UK forum. So fire away! Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Well watching that stuff you downloaded would be a good start.
Paid Members El Mistique Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Jonny Saint Vs. Jonny Kidd is one of my favorite matches of all time that use to air regularly on TWC.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Johnny Saint VS anyone. Then tug away. Â You'll get the same names recommended to you (and rightly so), but there's some lesser known guys that have had some cracking bouts, too. Mike 'Flash' Jordan was someone whose matches I always enjoyed. Â Also, Naggers & Blondie Barrett VS Regal and Brookside. The infamous hypnotism match. Paid Members Carbomb Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Can't go wrong with Johnny Saint and Rollerball Rocco. Saint's match with a young Robbie Brookside is a load of fun, and his one match in Japan in Michinoku Pro with Hoshikawa is decent too. Rocco's matches with Fuji Yamada (later known as Jushin Liger) were way ahead of their time. Â Check out some Les Kellett for great comedy matches, and it should be easy to find one of my favourites: Kendo Nagasaki & Psycho Stevens vs. Wayne Bridges & Rollerball Rocco. Moderators PowerButchi Posted February 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 23, 2014 I've seen Terry Rudge pimped heavily. Wrestlers dig him too.
Sphinx
Yeah, can't remember where I've heard about Terry Rudge. I've also realised I've never seen a Mick McManus match. Thanks for the recommendations so far - I'm gonna watch a few tonight.
spotlightmagnet1
Steve Grey matches are usually good. Him vs. Johnny Saint or against Jim Breaks I seem to remember being good. Â And Johnny Saint vs. Ken Joyce is quality.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Clive Myers vs Mick McManus from 1981:- Â (part 1) (part 2)Â And not just for the most mental spot in World Of Sport history, either.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Since he's not been mentioned yet, I'll throw Marty Jones' name into the hat. He had some fantastic matches with the likes of Owen Hart, Dynamite, Rocco etc. Plenty to go at on YouTube.
Vamp
Disco ladder match!
Paid Members Up Chuck Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 There was a really good Steve Grey vs Kid McCoy match on TWC once. Fairly certain it was at Broxbourne Civic Hall and was for a title. Â EDIT: Easy enough to find. Probably should have done that first. , .
JohnM
Clive Myers vs Mick McManus from 1981:-Â (part 1) (part 2)Â And not just for the most mental spot in World Of Sport history, either. I often wonder about that spot, perhaps someone in the crowd said something so the wrestlers wanted to teach them a lesson
Paid Members PunkStep Posted February 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 23, 2014 Disco ladder match! Yes! I was totally gobsmacked the first time I saw this. Kendo, right? Can't remember who he was against.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted February 24, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 24, 2014 I really enjoyed Young David (Smith) vs. "Crybaby" Jim Breaks. Breaks is one of my favorite all time heels.
