Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted January 5, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2014 So close on like 7 results, meaning just one point instead of 3. What could've been a great week got somewhat mediocre.
Fog Dude
The results went into the opening post on Sunday night, and the standings were worked out a couple of days ago. That's normal the hard part, and actually uploading the table is easy. Unfortunately this week the opposite has been true. Some of you may have noticed that the previous update had a stray cursor visible on the right of the picture. This was because it was carried out chez Mrs Foggy, where my usual Excel and Paint files didn't agree with her Linux programs. I only got back from there this afternoon, so I've only got round to writing this up now. Sorry about that. So, there were 63 points up for grabs after all rather than 66, as the terrible weather in Brittany gave PSG the weekend off. It was originally called off until Tuesday, but a second postponement makes it void for FPL purposes. TildeGuy got his D2D right, but in a rare occurrence, that wasn't enough to make him top scorer for the round as former champ hbk4life rediscovered his title-winning form from a few season back. He moves into third place, but TildeGuy is now clear in second spot after 4 of the other 21 participants wrongly doubted Chelsea's ability to win at Pride Park, gifting him 8 bonuses. MVP of course still leads, while at the other end, Seph's gamble didn't pay off, but he still managed to avoid being lowest scorer this time out. That dubious honour was shared by SNRN10 and hallicks, with the latter now one point closer to reclaiming the wooden spoon position. Of the 10 Coupe de France games that went ahead, the favourites all won in normal time. The only surprise in terms of what players here foresaw was Nantes' failure to overcome Nice. The other 9 matches were all good for at least a few easy one-pointers for most. Lyon and Auxerre both scored six, so nobody quite got the exact score for those ties, although one or two came close! Over in Portugal, many wrongly believed top-flight Coimbra would fall at Beira-Mar from the second tier, but they conspired to sneak through by a single goal, which benefited a few pickers. Closer to home, expected progress for Huddersfield and Hull proved fruitful, alongside Forest's win over the hapless Hammers at The City Ground, where no-one guessed there'd be such a wide margin of victory. Triumphs on the road for Cardiff and Palace in all-Prem clashes caught a fair few people out, as did Peterborough and Wednesday's inability to see off opponents from the Conference. I really should've made the latter fixture the D2D game, in hindsight. A draw at Carrow Road wasn't wildly shocking, but routine 2-0 home successes for Arsenal and Rochdale were strangely useless for some. Again, the match at Spotland didn't fit my usual criteria for what I'd put on an FA Cup card, but it certainly produced the closest thing to an old-fashioned upset of anything that happened at the weekend. I'd better get on with the next thread, then, since this is already a day late. Whoops.
