Bugsey713
I remember a topic I did a while back about Uniteds best ever player getting some decent discussion so I thought I'd try this and if it works we can do the same for Ireland, Scotland etc... Â Ok its simple, who is the greatest ever England international. And what that means is judging them just on their performances in an England shirt, club success means nothing in this thread. So if you wanna make the arguement that Carlton Palmer is Englands best ever international then feel free to do so. Â For me its David Beckham. I think he always delivered for England. I think of the crop of players that he played with from around 2001-2008 he will be one of very few to say they always gave their all and to generally be looked back at fondly by fans in the future. He carried the weight of expectation at pretty much every tournament they qualified for and personally I think he couldn't have given any more to the team. On the home front, he single-handedly destroyed Gazza with his solidity, and survived playing for Derby AND Leicester. I think he lives in a bin now, but he probably dines out at Poundland on that record.
Paid Members Sebby Posted December 9, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2013 I will have a think about greatest player... but one England game that has long lived with me was the game against Argentina (Friendly match) back in 05. I just remember Owen scoring two right at the death and going mental. Was really proud of England that night. For anyone interested here you go...  http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/4420426.stm  Here are the goals.   Back on topic I was a massive fan of Michael Owen, starting from his 98 world cup goal. The hattrick against Germany in Munich in 01. Shame he got badly injured or he would have been the all time England scorer for sure. 89 apps and 40 goals not bad at all.  Goal v Argentina in 98 World Cup  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFcTVlLj8Q4  I loved that 98 team. Maybe not the greatest international but I loved him all the same, so exciting to watch.

Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted December 10, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted December 10, 2013 Bit before everybodies time, but when I think of England, I think of Gary Lineker. Such a great striker that probably doesn't get the plaudits he deserves now, for example, he was miles better than Michael Owen IMHO.
