JMarshFan Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Ive always wondered, when wrestlers who are not in wwe or tna go on these internet radio shows, or are interviewed at conventions for videos, or any website interviews they give, do they get a fee for this or do they do it for free to promote their self? If they do get paid i wonder how much it would be? Its something thats ive always wondered and thought i would ask on here, its could make for an interesting discussion!
diamond_dust Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 A wrestler will get a fee for a shoot interview from someone such as RF Video or an appearance at a convention. The majority of wrestlers will be paid for a magazine/radio interview. You might occasionally get someone like an up and coming rookie who both the wrestler and publisher/host know that this person wont have much effect on the audience and it's a bigger benefit to the wrestler to get his name out there. That doesn't happen often and wouldn't happen with someone as big as Kurt Angle or John Cena. Occasionally a veteran who has been out of the loop apart from the convention circuit and odd indy might do something for free with a small site as a way to keep his name out there and remind the people running conventions he's still around. Â I think the guys from the Indy Corner who post here would be able to provide better info that anyone though.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted October 11, 2013 Paid Members Posted October 11, 2013 The fee depends on who it is, how much value they have and if there is any longevity in the horse left. And there are only so many spots. People seem to like what they like. They aren't looking for the next big WWE sacking. People will happily see Hacksaw Duggan for the 80th. The days of getting sacked from WWE and getting work for years look over to me. So many people get sacked from WWE and just retire these days. Like when JTG gets let go, is he going to knock X-Pac or Carlito off the posters? You only have to look at who does these shows. Its always the same blokes. Tommy Dreamer, Chris Masters, Colt Cabana, Carlito, X-Pac, Matt Hardy, Raven still gets a run out, Kevin Steen shows up to flog his stuff, Goldust when he's not with WWE, John Morrison. Guys like that. When Shad Gaspard got released, how is he meant to make a living in wrestling? Who gives a shit enough to pay him a grand and fly him in? There's no TNA anymore really. They aren't hiring you, unless you are willing to work for 6 quid an hour. ROH is barely hanging on. There's some big name indies out there, but they aren't booking you every month. There's no money in AAA for regular foreigners. A lot of people want to work there, but Konnan said on his podcast he tells people all the time "there's no money in Mexico". There are very few full time gigs out there. Â I found it interesting that Ring of Honor got fucking buried for telling their wrestlers to stop with the bullshit of flogging t-shirts to a custom online retailer. For a company like ROH who are looking at trying to nibble on the crumbs WWE leaves behind, the last thing they need are its own workers taking money out of the till by getting fans to press the top corner "x" and visit another website to buy their wrestlers shit. Everyone is a shit bag on the indies these days. They seem more interested in selling a shit quality t-shirt only a dribbler would wear than learn their craft. I like Kevin Steen, but its really no wonder WWE would never hire him.
