The NBA Discussion Thread

The 2K next-gen press event has just ended and my god, it sounds amazing:

Full info: http://www.operationsports.com/features/17...modes-and-more/

Apparently the 5on5 gameplay got a crazy applause. Whole new engine built for next gen too. People were remarking that it's like several games in one - they've added a full on cinematic story mode with a freaking open world court element!

Roll on PS4 next month! :)

NBA 2K14 / NBA Live 14 comparison video.

http://uk.ign.com/videos/2013/10/23/nba-2k...railer-face-off

2K14 looks so superior I almost feel sorry for EA having to go up against it.

I also like the fact that the next gen versions have seemingly not had the actual amount of content reduced like when the 360 first came out where say the PS2 versions of sports games didnt look as nice but had more teams / modes.

Pistons should be fine this year, Jennings as I've said before is vastly overrated, mainly by himself but Josh Smith was a great pickup, and Jennings is better than Knight who they had in there last year. I think the pick up of Billups was a smart move, he should steady the backcourt, providing he stays fit.

Where do the Pistons finish? Above the Knicks? I also agree that they're a sleeper team this season.

Has anyone else been watching the Grantland NBA preview videos? Jalen Rose is predicting that Kevin Durant is going to go to the Houston Rockets. Thoughts?

They're also predicting that this is Mike Woodson's last season coaching the Knicks and that he may go by the All-Star break, especially if Shump doesn't make a significant leap.

Nice set of predictions there. I'd swap Miami with Chicago in the East, and in the West I'd swap Houston and Clippers. I love Doc Rivers, and I think he'll do well there but as much as I enjoy watching the Clippers, I'm not sure Blake Griffin has got enough D for Rivers liking. I'd also swap out Denver for Minnesota. If Kevin Love stays fit all year and Rubio keeps improving I can see them making it. The Nuggets sacked George Karl and lost Iggy. I think sacking Karl has been the worst move of the off season, completely brainless that one.

Still no TV deal though! Shocking really, the NBA are not even answering fans questions about the matter, deeply disappointing that.

Agreed. The Nuggets had a terrible off-season. Losing Karl & Iggy were awful moves, especially seeing that the Nuggets fast break-style play will dramatically slow down. I was torn between them & Dallas for the 8th seed. If Denver trade Faried, which is rumoured, I'll drop them off the top 8 - trading KF would be another dumb move!

Regarding the TV deal, we saw the same thing last year. As you said, they're deliberately stalling to maximise league pass sales. We'll see it on BT Sport/ESPN by mid-November like last year and again, Sky's coverage will begin with the London game in January like last year too. It would be nice if they'd actually communicate with fans though.

I'm hyped for tomorrow. Definitely staying up for opening night. Just wish we got the 3 hours of pre-game that the US gets!

I've decided to go for the NBA TV Live pass for a month at a time at the minute. It was only 7 quid and they have at least 1 game a night as well as all the highlight shows and classic games.

I haven't got enough spare time at the minute to dedicate to the premium league pass, so I'll see how I get on.

Art,do you know of any sites UK based where you can pick up classic games on DVD? I have quite a few in my collection but they are mainly from iOffer where the scene is a bit dead these days. I know of Pontel, but they're far too expensive to be honest.

I know that Clear Vision sell DVDs: http://www.clearvision.co.uk/NBA-Basketball and if you can get access to the US iTunes, there are TONS of classic games and documentaries on there.

Tom Read from the Believe the Hype NBA podcast tweeted that a deal for UK TV should be finalised soon and that it was ESPN closing down and being taken over by BT that's caused the delay. He hinted that perhaps BT and NBA have clashed over money, but didn't elaborate further. Same as last year, I bet it shows up on BT/ESPN in a week or so and then Sky in January, beginning with the London game.

Roll on tomorrow night!
