The King of Old School
AJ vs Cena one last time in a "loser leaves Smackdown" match is what I would go for, Cena is taking time off after Mania anyway and I think AJ challenging him citing that Smackdown isn't big enough for the both of them would make sense now they are both out of the title picture. There can't be one person who want's to see Cena/Nikki vs Miz/Maryse, and looking at the projected card I can't even see how AJ/Shane fits in or how they will get there, I can honestly see AJ being lumped into the multi man IC title match, just like he is on house shows at the moment. What a waste of probably the two best in the company at the moment.
Paid Members WeeAl Posted February 17, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 17, 2017 AJ v Cena 'one last time' is definitely the way to go. They don't look to have fully committed to the other options that have been discussed either so I'm still holding out hope that they end up going with that. The world doesn't need to see another Shane McMahon match, nor do I need to see at least three if not four matches involving the women on WrestleMania. The show is long enough as it is. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted February 17, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 17, 2017 The Shane McMahon match is the best match for AJ. It leaves Cena in limbo but if you're purely concerned for Styles then a match against someone the masses still think is a big name that he will go over in is far better for him than a match with Cena that will be really good but that will only cement the impression that Cena is better than AJ. I'd have AJ go over in spotty weapon filled match and ready him for a run with Bray or Randy after Mania.
Paid Members Statto Posted February 17, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) Was it just my imagination, or was there something a little bit suspicious about the "fan reaction" shots during the main event? Obviously it's something they've been trying to work in for a while now, but normally they've added them onto the end of replays. This time, they were done "live". It might be total coincidence as I didn't really notice it until the closing minutes of the match (and I haven't had time to go back & check) but during that closing stretch there were 3 or 4 reaction shots following kick-outs (and the eventual finish) where they immediately cut to fan(s) who a) gave a massive energetic reaction to what had just occurred, & b) were all wearing merch (including the grown man who had turned up in a Nikki Bella Christmas jumper in mid-February, who clearly thinks he's Mick Foley). Is it pure good luck? Are they scouting likely "big reactors" then hope they "perform" when the camera happens to be on them rather than just shrugging or checking that text they've just got? Or are they a) filming big reactions to something that's happened earlier in the match/show and cutting them in at a time deemed appropriate, or b) could they be plants? boytoy
Smackdown has done a great job of elevating guys hasn't it? Post Draft: Geniune Main Eventers: John Cena, Randy Orton Potential: AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose Mid-Card hell: Bray Wyatt, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin Post Elimination Chamber: Geniune Main Eventers: John Cena, AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton Potential: Baron Corbin, The Miz Mid-Card Hell: Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler I think that is very impressive in such a short space of time, especially considering that Ambrose and Ziggler have had plenty of opportunities as well without being able to make the most of them. I think Corbin has knocked it out the park at every opportunity he gets and just needs a run at the belt to establish himself. I am keeping my fingers crossed for Nakamura on Smackdown too - that would complete an extremely healthy main event scene imo.
d-d-d-dAz
The Nikki/Cena v Maryse/Miz thing will be to this card what Lashley w/ Trump v Umaga w/ Vince was the other year, won't it? Not the biggest of deals to wrestling fans, but the easiest sell to the daytime talk shows and other media? They've all got profile, to some extent, and they have the tie-ins with the other reality shows. It'll probably end up doing most of the promotional leg work, outside of wrestling circles, in the run up to the event.
Slapnut
Surely that's the Big Show vs Shaq match?
WyattSheepMask
I've read rumours that this mixed tag match could finish with Cena popping the question afterwards, presumably to be shown on Total Divas down the line. Have they ever done a wedding proposal on one of the 'major' shows before? I know that Savage/Elizabeth was done on Superstars and the quote-unquote wedding was done on Summerslam and the Steph/Test/HHH wedding played out on Raw, but they never had a proposal on PPV have they? Ambulance Chaser
I make Daz right on the Cena/Miz thing, they will absolutely hammer the promotion in the mainstream, they love Cena over there don't they on the daytime shows and that, just get him hosting something and have a 'confrontation' with Miz, the other presenters will freak out and it'll be in the papers. Then get Maryse and Bella on there version of Loose Women or whatever arguing, pusing and shoving, it will work a treat now I think about it. Could get Cena on a more edgy show like SNL again, him and Miz could go at it. Endless options.
WyattSheepMask
I imagine it would be similar for Show/Shaq if that does indeed happen. That'll be all over the specific sports stations and the sports sections of the general news
boytoy
If John Cena could work around the crowd shitting over his IRL marriage proposal that would be enough to win GOAT status for me.
simonworden
Easy enough to have Brie in the front row too amd Bryan need G to defend her honor if he isn't out there already in a managerial capacity of they can find a second for Maryse and Mix
Paid Members mim731 Posted February 17, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 17, 2017 Oh God, they're going to have Bryan out there as a second for Cena, given his ongoing stuff with Miz, just so when Nikki is dithering over what to answer to the proposal he can do a Yes! chant aren't they?
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted February 17, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 17, 2017 They can tie it into the Daniel Bryan situation as well. Miz can call him out over what Nikki did to Maryse at Elimination Chamber, keep needling him over being unable to keep his family under control to the point that Daniel's getting more and more frustrated and Miz challenges him to the match but then says "I forgot, you're not cleared to wrestle!" At which point Cena can just happen to be passing and step in with a "no he can't but I can". Cena theoretically gets the vicarious Daniel Bryan pops or Miz manages to be such a good heel people actually get behind cena anyway. Daniel is ringside for the mania match and it ends with Cena proposing, Nikki accepting with a "YES! YES! YES!" and the extended Bella family (with the possible exception of Johnny Ace) celebrate in the ring. Hell if it's Nikki's retirement you could even have Maryse go over to try and insert her into the women's division now and again down the line. Or it becomes Cena & Shane w/ Nikki & D-Bryan Vs Miz & AJ Styles w/ Maryse. Keep your Shane involvement to a minimum (hot tag, runs around a bit like a house on fire before a coast to coast on Miz or elbow drop from the top rope through the announce table) and the job's done. Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted February 17, 2017 Awards Moderator Share Posted February 17, 2017 Cena & Shane vs Miz & AJ appeals to me a lot more than splitting those guys into two separate matches.
