The Official UKFF RAW Thread...

Recommended Posts

I know it's damning with faint praise, but this was still much better than Raw 25.

- There were a handful of fun 24/7 moments. Brisco in particular was brilliant. Drake crying about the limo driving away with the belt rather than his wife was also great.

- Bray Wyatt continues to look the absolute business. Fair play to Mick Foley, too. He's a creepy tramp but the scruff's always willing to put someone over. Fingers crossed Wyatt uses the Mandible Claw going forward.

- They've finally abandoned the no-wrestling-during-the-ad-breaks thing! Thank fuck. What a crazy couple of weeks that was. Vince is nuts.

- Strowman's squash was delightful. A complete pasting.

- Jimmy Hart handing Ron Simmons his megaphone was a genuinely creative and funny take on the whole, "Damn!" thing. Much better than what we usually get.

- Stone Cold Steve Austin is an incredible man. Went out there with literally nothing to say and it was still one of the best promos of the year.

That's probably about it in terms of highlights though. Other than that it was mostly a bad show that didn't help put over any of the current roster. Roman looked like a complete chump getting beaten up for about 90% of his segment with Joe only to score the win with a Spear out of nowhere, Becky's tumble down the card continues and Seth Rollins legitimately looked like a Make-A-Wish kid getting to do the DX catchphrase will all the proper stars. Also, why was everyone dancing backstage when there was no music playing? So weird.

Maybe it's been going on for weeks and I've just not noticed before, but I can't decide whether Rene Young is taking the piss with her commentary or not. I know the WWE announcers always sound completely inauthentic, like their soul is dying live on air, but this was the first week where it honestly felt like Rene was being extra fake and shit on purpose, like she's on the wind up. Anyone else noticed?

Never heard her on commentary before but she was crap tonight. She just doesnt bring anything to the team apart from the fact she's a pretty woman. The whole announce team infact has no soul.

I guess it depends what you were looking for as to whether you found that show enjoyable or shit. I thought it was a fun watch but certainly didn't have any real impact on the current direction of the product. As a long time fan I do get a kick out of seeing the old faces and it was nice to see a few different ones this time. And at least it wasn't in two venues.

Stone Cold looks to have taken 10 years off himself since last time I saw him; looks in tremendous shape. Easily the highlight of a fairly dull show was Austin's bit at the end.

Austin was fantastic. Had everyone in the palm of his hand and looked to be having a ball of a time. Looks in the best shape he has in years.

I know he's made of dust these days, but I really wonder if he's thinking of putting on some smoke and mirrors outing for a Saudi payday.

The Cena return, Bray battering Foley, the 24/7 title shenanigans and a quality promo (about nothing in particular) from Austin at the end are highlights.

I would love to see one more match from Austin and would take the risk of it being shit just to see the spectacle but there's more chance of Bossman winning the rumble than that.

The Kilq moment? *Insert Alan Partridge gif here* it's almost at the point where I'd rather just save reunions for WM weekend as it didn't further anything.

The commentary on raw is also terrible, even on the highlights it's just so forced and scripted that it takes away from the moment. "Oh my he's using Foley's move!" Thanks Michael Cole for enlightening us...

I’m amazed that they didn’t do some sort of big angle to encourage people to keep watching. I don’t necessarily even mean something most people would consider good, they didn’t even do the kind of big angle Vince might be into (‘who flushed Roman’s head down the toilet?’, ‘Baron Corbin leads stable of heels down to attack Roman’, ‘Lacey Evans kisses an unconscious Seth Rollins on the cheek and the announcers speculate about what this means for his future with Becky’) - they just wheeled out a bunch of legends and said ‘member this?

Whoever said they were trying to frame themselves as part of America’s history ahead of the AEW TV debut is probably spot on.l, which means we can probably expect more of this going forward. ‘If you don’t like us you’re an America-hating-socialist-bastard WATCH SMACKDOWN ON FOX’

Stone Cold's promo was brilliant, the guy just has the ability to deliver any old guff with intensity and conviction.

Apart from...

"I met up with..."

WHAT

"...the one and only..."

WHAT

"Hulk Hogan."

WHAT

"We had some beers..."

WHAT

"... and some sushi."

Er, what?

To be fair to them, I went out of my way to download the thing out of curiousity which was very obviously the aim of this show.

Like everyone, I expect, I was waiting for the big angle to draw me in for next week but it just never came. Instead we got a very good but very cynical Austin promo designed to paint the company in a much better light than usual. I don't blame them one bit. I only mentioned yesterday how they have positioned themselves as the heels which is baffling to start with. So yeah, I'd do that too.

What that won't do is make me tune in next week. Nothing on the show would. It wasn't all bad but the good bits were almost entirely throwaway shit using the one night only crew or Maverick and Truth doing the same thing they've been doing for the last 87 years and we see for free on Twitter.

Echo the points on the commentary. I think it's supposed to be upbeat, friendly, warm, comforting but it's just painful. Renee, who I adore, is particularly awful with her faux excitement.

Of the current stars, I can't think of many who came out of this looking cool. Bray Wyatt obviously. Strowman and War Raiders looked strong in squashes. And no-one else. Not even remotely.

Yeah Renee just isn't suited to that role. She's great at actual presenting but she's really stilted on commentary. Personally I think she could do any mainstream presenting and she would be great at it. Wouldn't be shocked if that's her next career move

First Raw I’ve watched in months as I was curious how it would play out. Just a very boring show as usual besides the 24/7 stuff. I switched off after Impact Wrestling’s Rob Van Dam shows up in his gear to hang out outside the ring with his new best mates The Hurricane, Slaughter and Angle. Probably the easiest money he’s made for a bit of kush. Can see why they didn’t care about Rhyno showing up at Impact a couple of weeks back when still under contract.

I know people on here don’t like Rollins and there’s some that have turned him. I used to be a big fan and have soured on him the past few months. And last nights Raw was the confirmation for me that I don’t care about him anymore, as that was one of the lamest fucking promos I’ve heard from the man. Calling Brock a Seth wannabe a couple of times with no crowd reaction, and just no reaction for him in general besides the burn it down shit. No wonder that Universal title is back on a real star.

Apparently ESPN were after her a couple of years back, I would be stunned if she doesn't go into legit sports presenting once her contract expires.
