Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted July 22, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 22, 2013 Astro, I agree completely. I knew the line Bray sang was a reference from something in particular, having seen it mentioned (possibly by yourself) when Bray first did that lovely 'I ain't no white trash' promo introducing the character, finishing singing that. I was just referencing that the breaking into song is also reminiscent of Manson prison interviews, especially that his voice is actually alright. Â Not to derail this into Manson stuff, but cheeky Charlie could carry a tune. Â Something about the whole feel of Bray in the rocking chair, the Family appearance, the Cult like religious following, hints at brain-washing toward a greater purpose and that the reality we live is a lie (again shades of Manson) definitely reminds me of elements of The Others from Lost, no doubt about it. Especially the use of the Lantern for some reason. It's more a Season 2 Lost feeling when you thought Mr. Friendly might be their leader and they genuinely appeared to be hillbillies. Â OOOH FUCK, I bet that's it! Or at least, what was on the tip of my mind's tongue. Jacob's Cabin with the empty rocking chair; the lantern, and an inverse of the first time they all appeared out of the darkness with torches -- there are a lot of Others-type elements to it. Great call. Even if it's not related to any of that, it's a sign of how great this character is that we're all making different interpretations of everything. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted July 22, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted July 22, 2013 On the mask thing, I remember when I first seen the vignette, it reminded me so much of this photo. Â Woy, you should do a blog on this. Just the influences and stuff like that. There's been a few Wyatt articles knocking about, but none that's dissected where the gimmick has been dreamed up from. Its all "it reminds me of Mideon" and "I wonder if Abyss will join lol" shite. Nothing actually decent. That would be awesome to read. Especially at the minute where there's a lot of buzz surrounding them and so much debate. I was thinking about doing something on it, just for here, but I know my limits (my limits being Mike Sanders and The Warlord) and I wouldn't be able to do it justice. You definitely would, though. Its right up your street. Â It would probably get on Meltzers daily update like the Hogan one.
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted July 22, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted July 22, 2013 I wonder if they will actually go supernatural with the character. Not in a blatant aggressive way - like, say Taker - but as Cookie alluded to, in a Lost/Others sense. Fuckin interesting, exciting stuff.
King Pitcos
One thing about the entrance I'm not sure of - lighting the lamp, then blowing it out, then walking to the ring with it lit again, then blowing it out again. I think the first bit on the video screen shouldn't have the lamp lighting and blowing out.

I'll probably do it tomorrow. Looking at what I wrote, there's a couple more that I forgot. True Blood, at least the opening credits, is definitely in there (rocking chair included), and 'Eater of Worlds' is a line from Stephen King's It. Â Â I could easily do that, i'm utterly fascinated by Manson. Â Â I wonder if they will actually go supernatural with the character. Not in a blatant aggressive way - like, say Taker - but as Cookie alluded to, in a Lost/Others sense. Fuckin interesting, exciting stuff. Â I can certainly see him working 'Taker in his future if he continues to get over strong. There's so much potential on ways to go with the character but I hope they don't go the genuinely supernatural route. The beauty of the character lies in Bray being nuts and believing he's aware of a subconscious superior reality, that he believes he is some all-powerful entity in his own mind and is showing people the way. Â All this shit is all our own interpretation though and we could be way off and any links we're making are simply coincidence rather than direct references and homages. I'd be very shocked if he hasn't taken influence from Manson for his promos though. Part of the reason why I like it so much is because i'm making links to a bunch of shit I like a bunch as it is. There's slight elements of Durden there for me too. Â I agree with Pitcos on the entrance actually, it doesn't need the 'We're here' every time and I don't expect that to remain. There's some great symbolism that can be used in the same vein as Undertaker and Sting with lighting and props though, similar to the urn and the black bat. The lights going out and the lantern coming on with Bray in the ring, or in the crowd or something then blowing it back out and his minions turning up out of nowhere or blackout then lights on and all that's there is the empty rocking chair. I love all that sort of shit. There's loads of potential for quality Undertaker-esque imagery to be utilised I can see, which is going to be massively aided by the video production crew who are clearly all over this gimmick themselves and the creative potential. Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted July 22, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted July 22, 2013 I think it's fantastic to see so much positive discussion about something on the wrestling. I'm so giddily excited about Bray Wyatt, but also incredibly nervous that it may all go to shit sooner or later if the creative team can't do justice to Bray's performances with the angles that they write for him. For now, I'm prepared to just enjoy the ride though. Â Woy, I would be very interested to read a blog on the Wyatt Family should you choose to take up that challenge. I think given how red hot the act is right now, a good piece of work could get you a lot of traffic. Â Get that Manson novel sorted out too. d-d-d-dAz
Searching Manson videos on youtube could be a full-time hobby. They're so vast, and varied in tone/content. He's a fascinating, fascinating man.

Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted July 23, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 23, 2013 Woy, you should do a blog on this.  Done and done: Dissecting Bray Wyatt  It's super in depth and pretentious, but THAT'S WHAT I DO. Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted July 23, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 23, 2013 It's such an explicit reference that I figure it's more a part of the character we'll never see on TV, but rather something Wyatt keeps in his head when he's performing, like how actors write backstories for their characters. The fact that it didn't air (it's labelled as 'leaked' but I ever watched NXT, so I'm not 100% clear on that) makes me think they thought it was too blatant too.
