Has anyone seen any of the blogs and articles related to this campaign? The homepage can be found here, and there was a decent little opinion piece on the subject on the Scottish Herald website today by Jock Morrison on why men should be supporting the cause;

There are, of course, differences between men and woman, biological and otherwise.For example, take the extra rib a woman has compared to a man. How can we explain that? Some put it down to evolution but others say it confirms the biblical story that God made Eve from one of Adam

I say just get rid of it as you can easily access plenty of pictures of tits and porn online. Why bother keeping something so tame in the newspapers, when you can find as much soft or hardcore porn on the internet.

Opinion on this matter aside, I think that piece by Jock Morrison is dreadful. Poorly worded, presumptuous, and it doesn't aid this campaign one bit.

Not to mention that Spare Rib can't call themselves that after the original owners objected.

I think banning it would play into the Sun's hands. They'd be able to appeal to women readers more and would have an out in that they'd been forced to get rid of page 3 rather than removing it of their own voalition.I think images of women and bitching about their appearance/lifestyle/weight are far more damaging to women than a pic of a generally healthy looking girl with her (natural) boobs out.

I'm not quite sure that's the point of the campaign, but fair enough!

Its harmless, leave it be. I don't think anyone actually see's it as porn. No one is forced to read the Sun and anyone that is shocked when they turn to page 3, can quite easily buy one of the Tabloids. I also, don't think it objectifies women anymore than the the Crap that you see on TOWIE or Made in Chelsea. None of the girls in the pics are forced into the work and more than objectifying them, it empowers them, knowing that us sleazy bastards are parting with our 20p for a quick gander. In all seriousness, I do buy the Sun on occasion, but honestly I can't remember the last time I paid any attention to Page 3, but it is a British tradition that is known world wide, so I would be sad to see it go.

Because it is a British tradition is a terrible argument. Lots of things that were a British tradition have been done away with on the grounds that they no longer fit into modern times, like cock fighting, bear baiting, and conquering all of the world and claiming it as our "Empire" Page 3 is something that belongs to the naughty seaside postcard, Carry On film age. I would hope we have moved on from that as a society, but having seen some of the foundation caked harridans that spring to fame from the likes of TOWIE and Made In Chelsea I am perhaps overestimating how far we have come.

Just because you don't read The Sun doesn't mean you can't object to something being in it. That's surely a very closed eye way of looking at the world?

Not really a bad way to look at the world until the harm outways the good. There's certain things in life that you can't bury your head in the sand about, but this is harmless and I can't think of anyway its hurting anyone. Unless the girl in the pics is being forced into doing it of course, but that's very unlikely that, that is the case.

Why should you object? I don't read the Sun either, but they are not my tits and who am I to tell some woman that she can't get paid to show off her tits in a newspaper? That's her perogative.
