IronSheik
Babyface and heel are classic kayfabe words. Probably the first insider terms I ever understood.
Paid Members Ronnie Posted May 8, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted May 8, 2013 Babyface and heel are classic kayfabe words. They are, but they don't derive from wrestling. Babyface sprang up out of nowhere in the early 19th century, enjoying a spike in usage in around 1840 in the US. Heel stems from the earliest 20th century from gangster circles. I remember a newscaster speaking with Austin in 1998, stating that he was "a classic wrestling heel" (in spite of his popularity). I suspect that he didn't actually know that heel was an insider term in wrestling when he said it but was using it in its more widespread sense of villain. Â Anyway, with your username, I'm surprised you haven't listed medicine to mean drugs. That led to one of my favourite moments on Sheiky's classic 2005 shoot interview: Â Dan Mirade: You only stayed for a short time this time. What happened? Â Sheik: Well, I be honest wit' you, sor. I didn't pass da medicine test again. Â Mirade, keeping a straight face: Oh, you failed another medicine test? Â Sheik: Yes sor. Â Magic!

Hahaha... I just marked out at that haha... Â I do like the 'medicine' reference, but I also like when Sheik talks about 'good gimmick men' meaning guys who shared their crack pipe or coke with him... Â "Dan Merade is a no good mother fucker piece of shit, he's a liar, he's a son of a bitch... He invite me to his fuckin show, he didn't pay me, he take me to the fuckin restaurant, and they go eat - they left me in the car! You think you are Merade Wrestling Federation? Fuck you piece uh shit" Â I love how Sheik 'cuts promos' on everyone!
waylonmercy
Great topic...I also love the use of the word gimmick as a byword for anything! Â Another I like is to "put someone over" Â "60 min broadway" "jobber" Â Love using terms outside the wrestling context... Â Joey Barton went into business for himself and got sent off. gary v1
'Jobber' is a favourite of mine and can be used in all sorts of sporting situations. e.g. 'Hamilton Accies are a bunch of jobbers' Â And so on.
