Paid Members Bettencourt Posted September 16, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2013 For some reason, I always closely associate Robocop with Terminator (even though they are radically different in tone, and only really have
Richie Freebird
Time has been much kinder to Robocop than Terminator. Robocop's satire remains sharp, and its special effects still look good in general. The Terminator, in contrast, is really creaky in terms of special effects, and the look of it feels incredibly dated now. Loki
I don't think I missed much by not bothering with the Total Recall remake, so I doubt I'll miss much by not bothering with this Robocop one. Â I know it's a clich
Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted September 16, 2013 Moderators Share Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Agree with The Hills Have Eyes. Also, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and though the original's not well known, the Mother's Day was surprisingly pretty great. Paid Members chokeout Posted September 16, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) The Fly is an amazing remake. The Thing  I'd also go for Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Horror seems to lend itself to remakes better than most genres Edited September 16, 2013 by chokeout
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted September 16, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2013 The Wicker Man. Â I like the Hills have eyes remake but I still prefer the original.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted September 16, 2013 Moderators Share Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) I haven't even seen it, but I'm going to have to assume the recent Captain America film is better than the one I watched as a kid. Don't think that really counts as a remake though, rather a new film with the same character. Â I didn't even know The Fly was a remake. Is the original even worth watching? Â I would probably enjoy any remake that was made during the 80s and 90s of much older films more than the originals. I imagine that's how youngsters these days feel about the remakes we slag off. Paid Members chokeout Posted September 16, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) The Wicker Man.  Fuck right off Jobs  Chest, The original version of the Fly is a B movie classic starring Vincent Price, there was a lot of references to it in the Simpsons Halloween Special where Bart becomes a fly (including the classic "Help Meeeeeeeeeee" line)   Well worth checking out if you are into older horror movies Edited September 16, 2013 by chokeout
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted September 16, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2013 The Wicker Man.  Fuck right off Jobs   I was only kidding  The Fly is the only one I can think of that I actually prefer to the original, there must be others though.  Movies made of the same character eg captain America don't really count unless the character originated in a movie or the story's the same. Richie Freebird
I was really impressed with the new Evil Dead, its not better than the original though. Everyone knows the best remake of Evil Dead is Evil Dead 2. To my ultimate shame as a so called horror fan, I haven
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted September 16, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2013 I liked the remake of Last house on the left more than the original although I do really like David Hess. Â I'm not keen on Evil Dead 2 but I love the first one and liked the remake

Loki
Texas Chain Saw Massacre? Really? I'll have to stop avoiding that then. Â Agreed on The Fly. That's a case of the original being very old and the sequel having the opportunity to do the concept better. Same with The Thing too and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, though the original of that is still pretty classy. Â Fistful isn't a remake of Yojimbo, it's different enough to have an actual different title for starters I think maybe during the 50s and 60s remakes or Americanisations were done by directors who were huge fans of the original, rather than the modern remake mania where producers are fans of the original's IP monetisation potential.
