Mr_Danger
I really don't know how anyone can have high expectations of a Power Rangers film. The original series was shit and hokey as fuck and whilst I appreciate it has a following surely the best you can hope for is a nice hit of nostalgia. Â Watching adults bitch and moan about a kids film that's not necessarily aimed entirely at them is going to make Facebook a right chore in the next week or so. Â You should see the amount of wankers who complained about Minions on Letterboxd when it came out. Most of whom didn't get dragged by kids to see it at the cinema. Some people just like something to moan about.
lanky316
Saw Beauty & The Beast last night (misses choice honest) and actually thought it was quite decent considering that I wasn't massively into the original Disney cartoon version and that I know how the story pans out.  Emma Watson is quite good in it. Defo worth a watch I would say.  Watsons autotuning to oblivion made the musical numbers a bit harder to enjoy for me but aside from being nitpicky it was good fun. It's a Disney live-action remake, you know what you're getting and they have generally done them well up to now.
Keith Houchen
Insidious 3 was every bit as dire as I thought it would be.

And TheForce.net. There was an initial rush of AMAZING! with a slow realisation after about a week that something wasn't quite right after the fug of new Star Wars had worn off. Meanwhile there's a whole generation of now-early 20s who love it as a film from their childhood. Â Phantom Menace is now 18 years old. It was 16 years between Jedi and Phantom. cobra_gordo
I have a secret soft spot for Phantom Menace. I had the same thing though , thought it was amazing when I first saw it at the cinema and then the slow realisation after watching it a few times when it hit VHS that it was pretty naff and effectively a council meeting with some awesome choreographed fight sequences, an annoying kid and a digital douchebag. Now though I look at it how I did originally, it's fairly light going, it's colourful and in your face and if you ignore the midichlorian crap and Jake Lloyd's horiffic acting it's not too bad really. Far better than Attack Of The Clones anyway. I don't even mind Jar Jar these days and am now the proud owner of a Jar Jar Binks mug.
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted March 23, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted March 23, 2017 I didn't like Get Out. I'll have to watch it again, but the ending really fucked me off.

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 23, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 23, 2017 In fairness, I thought the ending was its weakest part. It became a pretty generic slasher film at that point. But I'll mark this down as a VERY rare time when me and Branquey don't agree on summat! Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted March 23, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted March 23, 2017 (edited) I just thought the ending was far too convenient. I suppose, people would have complained if it'd been a downer ending but the whole film reminded me of a racially charged Greater Good plot from Hot Fuzz I don't know what it was, but I just didn't like it. I'll have to give it another watch because everyone seems to be pulling the undercarriage off themselves over this one. Maybe I should have looked on it as satire or something, haven't a clue... Â For you D-Mal, for you, I'll embrace this movie again! Edited March 23, 2017 by Scott Malbranque
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 23, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 23, 2017 I think it will reward repeated viewings because there were lots of little things and references in there that are easily missed, but I don't know if it would necessarily improve if you didn't like it first time round. Â I still think It Follows is the best 'indie horror goes huge' film of recent years though.
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted March 23, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted March 23, 2017 It Follows was wonderful. Absolutely fucking wonderful... I still put the eerie synth score in my earholes going asleep at night on occasion.Always thought occasion had two s's. That's probably what got me an A2 in English in my Leaving Cert as opposed to an A1. That and rhythm.

I suppose, people would have complained if it'd been a downer ending but the whole film reminded me of a racially charged Greater Good plot from Hot Fuzz    As I said earlier in the thread I think it needed the happy ending because it was racially charged. Its playing with race and how black and white people view each other was done with a delicate touch and could make people think about some of the subtleties of racial relations. If it just ended with a white cop shooting him or something I feel like it would've been saying a far bigger more negative message about racial harmony being essentially impossible and even if you're the black hero who's been through shit there's no hope and the struggle is endless.
