I liked it when the various versions of the Shining Wizard got different names attached to "Shining" (sort of implying that the "shining" part meant stepping up on the knee). Favourite one ever was Chono's yakuza kick version, the Shining Black.

I did like when James Tighe started combining Lex Luger's finisher with an airplane spin, almost certainly for the sole reason of calling it the Revolving Tighe Rack.

Danny Doring's arsenal of sex-related move names was pretty awful.

James Tighe has instantly become my favourite wrestler. I love terrible puns but that is truly inspired!

On similar note the Glimmering Warlock was a knee step enzuigeri which was called the Shining Apprentice, fucked if I can remember who innovated/popularized it though. Shining Triangle FTW.

I mean I was a massive hypocrite because my e-fed wrestler (yep that sad) had the same finish called the 'Luminous Shaman'.

This reminds me, I always thought "Last Kiss" was a good name for Kid Romeo's finish.

The reason being a stream of consciousness thing - e-fed put me in mind of a character in mine called Louise Valentine (her birthday is today) who I had use a sunset driver which I named the "Last Kiss". As a babyface I also let her use the LeBell/Yes/No Lock and named it the "Lovelace." Porn connotation did not go unnoticed.

Yeah, real hard-on for "move name befitting the gimmick" me.

One of my old training buddies and former UK scene regular, Kid Regis, used to do a Shining Blockbuster in training. Looked pretty funky, shame he didn't do it in matches.

Personally, with a name like that, I'd go for a triangle choke - the "Love Triangle".

Where did that come from? I just thought it was the Pearl Jam song.

That was told to me by Jake himself. Obviously with his reputation you can take that for what you will but personally I like that story enough to want to believe it. Plus after doing a tiny bit of research there really is an 'Even Flow' baby formula so the story does hold weight.

Jake has/had a habit of telling people different stories of where names of moves come from as me and a number of other people experienced. Then again, Jake just had a habit of telling different stories period. That's not an insult or an attack on you or anything like that and it could very well be true but it's just how Jake was so never can be 100%.

I totally know what you mean with regards to the dubious nature of the authenticity of the stories. Still it's one I enjoy to entertain. Similarly I like how when people would often ask what DDT stands for, rather than rattling of the chemical name (Points if you know what the hell it is) he simply stated "The end"

Also I'm kinda torn over Jack Swagger renaming the Ankle Lock 'The Patriot Act' It's cool how it fits his All American character and it's an original name however I can't really get on board with it as it doesn't have anything to do with the actual mechanics of the move itself and is kind've a mouthful. I think i'll classify it as a swing and a miss.

Bit Racist? Can I see a clip of it on Youtube?

I hated the Van Daminator as well. Generic, unimaginative. Although I quite like "Van Terminator" as it is what it sounds like ; an enhanced Van Daminator.

I'm more or less the same there. Didn't particularly mind Van Daminator but liked Van Terminator for the same reason you mentioned.

On the Sharpshooter front, the connection is obvious but for some reason i thought Sharpshooter came first. On other moves that have been mentioned, i'm the same with loving a move that has connections to the wrestler and their persona and love The Tombstone for the reasons Carbomb mentioned, everything down to the pinning style of that move is brilliant. Loved Moonlight Drive too, would have hated it if it was 'Driver' though. Was always gutted he dropped that move as a baby and never understood why. Razors Edge is certainly a brilliant name too. On the subject of Shining Wizards, loved MVPs version being dubbed the 'Drive-By'.

On the shit names front - can't stand Zigglers being called 'The Zig-Zag'. That's such a lazy effort and i'm stunned it's ever stuck. 'Skull Crushing Finale' is equally wank. Not a fan of 'Go to Sleep' either but that's just pulled straight from Kenta isn't it? I do like 'Anaconda Vice' though. 'Pepsi Plunge' was both the worse move ever in terms of the actual move and the name. 'White Noise' is fucking crap too, don't know why they changed that from 'Celtic Cross'. I really like 'Brogue Kick' though.

Was often a bit gutted when some guys had well established moves/finishers that didn't have a fancy name. Like Cactus Jacks Double Arm DDT or British Bulldogs Running Powerslam for example.

What's the story behind 'The Barry White Driver' or is it just a quirky name for the sake of it?
