Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted February 6, 2013 Awards Moderator Share Posted February 6, 2013  The Academy Awards are almost upon us. For those who like films, this means... well, not very much. The best films are the best films, little gold man or not. But it's still quite easy to get caught up in the buzz.  I thought it might be fun for those who like this sort of thing to have a bit of a prediction competition, see which UKFFer is the best at films. If I can persuade the mods, you might get an Oscar statuette in your avatar for a bit or something if you win.  Alls you need to do is:  - Copy and paste the list of nominees near the bottom of this post  - Show your pick by DELETING all the films you don't think will win, leaving your winner. This should help avoid great big long posts in the thread.  - Feel free to discuss your choices!  So, if you think Argo will win Best Picture, Ang Lee will win Best Director, and Daniel Day-Lewis will win Best Actor, your predictions will look like this:  BEST PICTURE Argo  BEST DIRECTOR Life Of Pi - Ang Lee  BEST ACTOR Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln   Whoever gets the most correct is the winner! Don't worry if you haven't seen or even heard of any of the films in the category. Just have a guess, it's meant to be fun!   HOWEVER.  In the event of a tie break?  Well, in the event of a tie break, we go to the POINTS ROUND.  In the POINTS ROUND:  - you pick THREE films that have been nominated this year. A complete list is at the bottom of this post.  - for each Oscar won by one of your chosen films, you receive five points!  - but for each Oscar your film is nominated for, but does NOT win... you lose three points!   So while you might pick the three films with the most nominations, i.e. Lincoln (12), Life Of Pi (11) and Silver Linings Playbook (8), you might think you've got a sure thing. But if they only win two awards each, you'll be worse off than if you pick Beasts Of The Southern Wild (4), The Master (3) and Flight (2) and they all win everything they're nominated for. Therefore, choose carefully!  These picks will only become essential if the main predictions are tied. I'll then tally the points and hopefully a clear winner will be reveealed! If not, I'll think of a suitably suitable third round...   You can take part in either one of the pools, or preferably both. I'll post my picks in the next post as an example. And if I end up being the only entrant...  I WIN.  Anyway. May the Best Picture win.     BEST PICTURE Amour Argo Django Unchained Les Mis
