I used to completely ignore Joey Ryan with his original PWG gimmick - whatever it was. I also found his nob gimmick initially funny, then played-out very quickly. However, I immensely enjoyed the sleazy gimmick he first did in TNA, and felt he never really got a good run with that - they barely used him outside his feud with Taz (which was crap, mainly because Taz couldn't really do much, unsurprisingly). Then it seemed like his idea of developing it was the willies, which I guess would make sense, but has such a shit shelf life.

The heels on the closing segment on the show double-teamed him and then the Young Bucks came out for the rescue in a surprise spot. Then they did the same angle the next time with Cody. And another time with all of them. Not all for the same show or anything - just small indies.

After this, they did a small storyline where Joey had clearly come to expect the Elite to bail him out, and when they weren't around and there was nobody to rescue him, he was in trouble. So, for fun, they leaned into it on Being The Elite, and kept escalating it, as more people realised that Joey Ryan was a pathetic man-child that they could push around. And it went from being 'realistic' beatdowns to backstage comedy, so the pathetic nature of the attacks was still too much for Joey to defend himself against. The ongoing gag was just that he'd give up rather than try, and the comedy was often in knowing how the skit would end.

The murder was Hangman Page - he'd been in a feud with Joey Ryan, claiming that Joey was just a 'penis pretender' and he was the real deal. And it concluded with Ryan making him drink a jug of piss and then superkicking him. In the Being the Elite show, he then beat Joey to death in a hotel room in revenge, but pretended he didn't do it. It was (in the Being The Elite world) a big news story, where news reports about 'Famous Dick Wrestler, Joey Ryan' being missing and presumed dead were a thing. Hangman went insane with the pressure, believing his cowboy boots were snitching on him, and eventually was taken down when Joey Ryan returned with the inflatable penis version of the Undertaker's Druids at All In. It was later revealed that while Joey had been killed, the power of his erection brought him back to life.

I'm not saying any of this makes for great matches, but it was pretty fun comedy. Made me laugh at least once per segment.

I've found myself contemplating whether I should watch 'Being the Elite' sometimes.
I now feel justified that I never have.

Comedy's subjective and I'm not arguing that. But your 'I don't understand' stance is a bit like going 'But Santino Marella doesn't even have a real cobra. It's just his hand. I don't understand. Even his opponents seem to think it's a real cobra. Please explain. What am I missing?"

I don't understand the appeal. I understand the bit [apart from the Being the Elite stuff which I've never seen and you explained].

How long has Joey Ryan been doing the dick flip? 8 years? 9 years? I'm baffled how anyone a] still finds it funny and b] ... err, well I don't need a b] because the a] was so great!

Caught some of BFG last night - Shamrock looked incredible and it's a mystery as to why WWE won't do a one-off return. Stick him in a rumble.

A 55 year old doing a standing frankensteiner. Beautiful.

I suspect given his history of concussions (diagnosed and otherwise) it means he wouldn't get cleared by WWE.  I also imagine they see him as a likely candidate to (for lack of a better term to get across the context) "do a Benoit", given his erratic behaviour over the years.

Overall a good show although I preferred slammiversary the ladder match was great but I was disappointed they didn't pull the trigger with Tessa if she keeps falling just short people are gonna stop rooting for her, I thought Elgin Vs marafuji was great

Main event was your typical Brian cage match I thought Sammy did about as good as he could to drag him to a passable contest but big shame they didn't give Sammy the belt

 Onto the AXS era now

Isn't it a bit odd that days after Shotzi Blackheart signs an NXT deal, she appears on Impact? I know it says she reports to the PC in November but its strange that the WWE would allow a televised appearance for another company.
