British fans watching American wrestling

I can definitely relate to a sort of inexplicable fascination with America from when I liked wrestling as a kid. I was a bit like Tex from Alan Partridge for a while, and I definitely wanted to visit Memphis and Nashvhille to see the home of The King (the wrestling one) and Double J. Like most people on here seemingly, I have a residual useless knowledge of American state capitals and the like, the only one that springs to mind now is knowing that Charleston was the state capital of South Carolina when our music teacher played us a tune that goes with the dance of the same name.

Would I want to live there now? Fuck no. There are elements of their culture that I love - nothing comes close to Seinfeld for me - and some of the most intelligent and creative people in the world are American. But the proportion of people at the other end of the intelligence scale is far too high for my liking. Aside from the fact that I have a heart condition that would probably financially cripple me if I lived over there, I couldn't live in a country where the idea of free healthcare is seen as inextricable from the red menace, and where socialism is still a dirty word at a time when unchecked capitalism has so comprehensively fucked the world economy. And obnoxious flag wavers of any sort turn my stomach even in this country, so I can't imagine enjoying that aspect of America too much either.
