UKFF Hip Hop Thread

Alright... I've been thinking about this for some time, and seeing as we've currently 'jacked the Song of the Day thread talking about it, I thought it best to strike whilst the Iron is hot.

It'd be nice if this thread has some discussion in it and not just a list of people posting Youtube links. But hell, it'll be nice if anyone else posts in it much at all.

So yeah - try to write a bit about the stuff you're posting to give people a reason to click it and possibly spark off some decent conversation. I know we've certainly got a few fans about, and I'm also interested in knowing where neil got to with his recently new found love of hip hop and journey through the years thereof.

I'll start with a track from my current hip hop album of the year.

Sean-Price-723922.jpeg

Sean Price has been going for years, since back in Heltah Skeltah with Rock where they had one big hit in the early 90s. He has a cool ass fucking voice, is generally a witty guy and is believably and effortlessy badass. Very charismatic and authentic in the world of fakers and posers that is hip hop. Grown man bars.

And if he is to be believed this is his last album :(

Well as promised my input, well ive been listening to hip hop for years, but recently changed what i was listening to, to get a broader knowledge of the world of hip hop and i restumbled on someone that in Clipse i used to love, although from the sounds of things they are on a return album after a few years apart i give u all this :

I personally love this album and would love everyone to listen to it :)

Pusha T, i think although in Clipse they pretty much held there own and with his brother both had it locked down but this album on his own, just shows off with or without his brother they were just up there with the likes of MOP, Onyx and other old skool Rap Artists.

Next is XXL Freshman 2012

Obviously, well actually not this is where they look for the best artists of 2012 from all the up and comers and there has been soooo many good battles with the likes of Yelawolf, Hopsin, Iggy Azalea, Kid Ink, Rosco Dash, and some of them killed it while others just pretty much were awful. but in the same time it brought out battles like these full of old skool kicking it with the class of 2012

This track is nice... I've found his solo work to be really patchy tbh. Also he's lost a bit of credibility still doing his coke raps but all the time talking about Top Model and his latest fashion line. He just seems a bit desperate. (and this is coming from a big Clipse fan, btw).

As it happens I was chatting to a mate this afternoon about Clipse and we were wondering what Malice... or rather No Malice, was up to these days. Seems this came out a few months ago. I like the beat less than that Pusha track, but I like the song better overall.

* also, it's bit of a shame that the Pusha track is doing the Biggie hook and ends with a bit of that tune because it's, well, a much better song. Comparison is not favourable.

I cannot say anything bad about the Next love of my Hip Hop life, Kendal he should be right up your street its ............. Soul Khan

From the MC Battles all over the world, and festivals and circuits from the sunny states of US to over here in the UK hes torn it up, his MC Battles were flawless, and still he is underground and i think he will try and stay there as much as he can with his workers the brownbag Allstars

Right, I'm home & thus have Youtube. Everyone knows the 90's were the best decade for rap, even the one hit wonders were top.

Del should've got more love

I remember seeing this when it was telly & creaming myself

I was 12 when I first heard this & that very second I knew this was my shit

Onyx one hit wonders? come on, maybe that one track was big mainstream wise if that what you meant, but they are great overall, loads of top beats from them, certainly one of my favs.

I'd say Shut Em Down is probably their best, although it's close because I really like their first and 2nd album, the video to React was ace.

Too bad Black Rock never came out, but Sticky Fingaz first album is really good.

You mentioned Del there, I really liked what he did with Deltron 3030, being a fan of cyberpunk, it was really cool to have a rap album based around that theme, not something you really see, he was supposed to make a 2nd one, but that never happened. Shame, because the first one is brilliant.

Other than a few things, I still listen to stuff from the 90s mostly.

Del has done some amazing stuff over the years, although his output is patchy.. Good news though Total Package - Deltron Event 2 is actually totally recorded now and Deltron live shows will be coming to the UK. Dan the Automator told me so himself on Twitter! Can't fucking wait...

Also, since we're on Deltron and 90s how about a bit of love for the whole Hiero crew?

First time I ever heard Onyx was seeing the version of Slam with Biohazard on Beavis and Butthead. Awesome..

I've been digging on some 90s shit that I had never heard before recently and found some real gems:

Featuring Questlove on the drums in the video (and apparently according to this youtube clip re-pressed this year)

I'll second a bit of love for Sticky Fingaz too.. and for no particular reason other than it is great here's

Edit - Loving that Funkdoobiest track! One of those names I've always heard but never got around to checking out.
