The role of women in wrestling?

The way I see it WWE is a worldwide company that relys on ratings and selling merchindise among other things. The Divas love them or hate them appeal a demographic of young girls who are wrestling fans who look upto them as role models, men obviously for T&A, women in general who admire the WWE Diva's. Just as John Cena again love him or hate him, whether he's a good wrestler or not he appeals to a demographic which brings in big money for WWE.

I'm not saying that the Divas have a big effect on ratings or merchandise sales but the WWE is a PG company that bases itself on diversity, that way its attempting to open itself upto all the demographics. The Divas are positive role models and represent another side of WWE. The Divas look better on TV and I presume really help with the promoting of WWE around the world. In a world now were the media spotlight is a strong as ever, WWE needs the Divas in some sense for instance when they brought in Maria Menounes (or however u spell her surname) and with Eve doing her Stars Earn Stripes (I think it was called) its bringing a lot of much needed positive media attention on WWE. I'm suprised we haven't seen a Diva in the main role of WWE studios film or at least on Dancing with the Stars or something. With Linda McMahon running for senate the WWE needs to show its diversity and it does that by having the Diva division just as it does by having wrestlers of different races etc.

Personally I really admire the Divas, they are making the best of the situation they are in and probably work just as hard as the men. I think fans are really harsh when they talk about the Divas. I really wish however they would stop hiring women who deep down probably don't give to shits about the wrestling business and I really wish that the WWE would have somebody work with the Divas to help them with their skills. Bring in Ivory and Jackie Moore that would be great, I really miss the early to mid 00's when Mickie James was doing her pshyco storyline with Trish and when Victoria and Jackie were around.

but I imagine there are plenty of others who recall her with lust in their hearts.

Yeah I must admit than in the pre Sable days I used to think she was pretty smoking man. :D

Ah it was a more innocent time before our brains were warped by internet porn.

I've been looking for this everywhere and finally found it. This was posted around the internet a few years ago, and both Meltzer said they knew it was legit. Some Diva listed what these lasses do on the indy scene when the spotlight is gone. AJS269 will probably either go limp or get his switch card out.

WWE DIVA AFTERLIFE

Written by a former WWE Diva

1. Don't worry, it will grow back fine... just cut it down and stop bleaching it dummy. Now your natural color will be seen as a "new look" and you will experience refreshed marketability. Take some brand new all natural 8x10's at Wal-Mart and work it girl!

2. Remember you can always bleach your hair again back to the "classic look" to boost your self esteem for a week. If you ever get cancer from the dye, just ask Dawn Marie to sell her unwashed panties through Wrestlers Rescue to help pay for the medical bills.

3. If your just coming off TV, then your used to the schedule. Always starve yourself before every appearance and pig out at your favorite fast food restaurant afterwards. Nothing new. Eating disorders and binging cycles are totally normal and healthy. It's a Diva's way of life, 4-life.

4. If you haven't done so already, you need to go fuck either Scott Levy, Batista or Ric Flair before he dies. Do a few lines of coke with them too. It makes for a great tell all shoot and high self worth.

5. The wrestling convention circuit is 10x200. The same 10 money marks will book you and the same 200 losers will show up each time. Milk 'em for all they are worth cause it's all you got left. Virgil will be at every show so you might as well get to know him too. And yes, he is a real creep.

6. Appearing at 3 Flea Markets per week is officially known as "doing a tour". Congrats on the success!

7. Letting men touch your breasts for an extra $5 during photo-ops is an excellent business strategy.

8. If the photo-op printer ever stalls and delays, just give them an index card with your own lip prints on it. It will make their day that you were soooo selfless, giving and thoughtful of their patience.

9. It's perfectly normal to refer to other human beings as "fans", "clients" and "followers" but to their face- always call them "friend".

10. Always smile and play nice with the co-workers you haven't seen in 5 years. These are your "best friends in the whole world"....somehow? That's how the wrestling family illusion rolls on.

11. Treat the disabled extra nice. Them pockets are deep with Social Security money and they spend like mad at the gimmick table.

12. You will never draw like Trish Stratus, you will never look like Trish Stratus and you will flat out never be Trish Stratus... but don't ever stop trying hun'.

13. But yes, I know you are still a big star... right in your head.

14. Even if you got fired, always say that you left "on your own terms" or because of an "undisclosed dispute". This will always make you appear above the business.

15. Always say that a WWE return is "right around the corner" and "never say never" when you know damn well they wouldn't take you back if you begged.

16. When the going get's tough, selling your used tampons on eBay is a great way to make some additional cash.

17. I know the crows feet and wrinkles are building up. It's ok, no one is going to seriously book your used up, worn out ass after age 45 anyway. It's now time to assume the Moolah role.

18. There's nothing wrong with forever living in the past. Tammy Sytch still lives in 1996, and look there's nothing wrong with her.

19. Why have any normal relationships? You can have every lonely pervert from Philadelphia to Oakland lusting after you. Being emotionally unstable is F U N!

20. Remember that Jesus forgives you for all of your sins, so everything listed above is A-OK. Just rinse and repeat.

In closing: Yes this is one sad life but hey it's all you know.... so do it like a professional!

Whores.

How could you not say that WWE has diversity when u look at the current roster its filled with superstars some of which are smaller guys to big muscle guys and from different races and gender? Mexican e.g. Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara. I'm not sure if its the right term but African Americans Mark Henry, Booker T, PTP among others. Jamican ,Japaniese, British, Welsh, Scottish etc and obviously the Diva's made up of women of different races all of which have featured prominantly on WWE TV at some point or another past and present. WWE has to appeal to people of all races, gender and age that way you cover they entire market.

The Divas play perhaps not a big part but certainally a part in what WWE are trying to be about in the PG world they are currently in. WWE are attempting via being PG to appeal to they entire family and families aren't just made up of men, they want to appeal to the kids both boy and girl that's what I'm guessing the Divas are for. WWE is now in a lot of ways a family friendly show so their product has to have something for everyone, young and old, male and female.

I can imagine now more than ever WWE are caring less about the die hard fans of wrestling from the past and concentrating more on families and are catering their programme towards that area of the market thus the reason they turned PG. Were stuck with wholesome, family friendly, fruity pebble that is Cartoon Cena and the covered up wholesome barbie Divas and long gone are the days of Attitude unless your buy WWE 13 of course lol

Women's wrestling is tounge in cheek, it's to give dads and lads a cheeky perve. It's not too risky that it's no longer a family show but there's enough innuendo to get dad watching.

I do think though wrestling has a kind of eighteens attitude to woman, gays, blacks etc. there seems to be an importance of defending wrestlings masculinity by those in the industry. Putting woman out there makes wrestling less gay and reinforces that it's a manly sport because it's got tits on it. When the fact is wrestling is quite gay and the majority of people think its gay aswell it's the most common insult thrown at the wrestling industry.

The other reason you have woman involved in a company like the wwe is because vince would sooner the wrestlers get into relationships with woman on the road with him rather then have a wife at home. If wife or girlfriend is also with the wwe then that wrestler won't need time off and vince an keep the show on the road

Most people dont think wrestling is gay they think its fake and rubbish. Why do people say that maybe they need to look at themselves i think.

Go on YouTube on the majority of comments someone calls it gay, I've had an old boss refer to is a gay, there was a few of use at college that liked it others thought it was gay. Its quite common insult to have and I'm sure others have encountered it.

I don't need to look at myself lol

Gay has been adopted as a slang term for something that is shit though these days. So. Think when people suing it has a double meaning. I'm a gay man and describe shit things as gay just think it might be generational. But there's loads of threads. Discussions aout whether wrestlng is gay on the internet. That why. Believe the industry is keen to reinforce stereotypes and be masculine.

To be fair though as much as I love it, wrestling is a bit gay.......it's just the nature of the beast

Which precisely why they have macho gimmicks and woman involved to play does the whole wrestlin is gay ting

I think the fact that 90% of WWE roster wears trunks these days make it a bit more gay than it should be. I dunno I have always found wrestlers that wear cut off jeans and sleeveless shirts (like Raven style) a bit more palatable than the oily speedo brigade.

Your right though it's because of these inherent gay overtones that they keep pushing Divas that look like strippers and remain slightly homophobic (though not overtly)

I personally don't for one second think that WWE tries to push masculinity and cover up the fact that wrestling has homosexual theme's. The WWE has been around since the early 80's and is a mulit-million dollar company, I really don't think Vince sits up at night wondering how to make the WWE less gay. Its World Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT if anything over the years WWE has pushed gay characters and gimmicks, BIlly and Chuck, Goldust, Mickie James during her fued with Trish. While WWE doesn't force gay sterotype in the faces of fan on a constant basis but I don't think either they hide away from pushing the homosexual button when its called for in the name of Entertainment. I do believe that its unlikely we will ever see a fully fledged gay storyline or character in the future due to WWE being PG and more family friendly. You have to think 1 in I believe 3 men are statistically meant to be homosexual, it makes you wonder with a male roster the size WWE has which ones are gay?.....

WWE is a diverse company, behind the scenes it may be full of racist, homophobic wrestlers and employee's but on camera in the modern world it has to show a different story of diversity. WWE has perhaps always been the same even back to its early days when its roster was filled with multi-national wrestlers and women like the Fabulous Moolah. Even wrestlers in the 80's were pushing the gay sterotype in Adrian Adonis. Pat Patterson is openly gay and worked for WWE for over 20 years I believe, obviously due to rumours of child molestation in WWE in the late 80's early 90's that Patterson was incriminated in, he was fired due to WWE performing justified damage control, however as we are all aware he was re-hired in the mid 90's and not only that was made a key character on WWE programming a few years later. If WWE has tried to cover up the fact that its gay then I don't believe they helped themself by putting not only Patterson in a dress but Brisco as well and parading them around on TV. The key to a succsessful company in the modern era is among other things Diversity and Equality something in my opinion WWE has always had and the women wrestlers of yester-year and the Divas of today are a key example of that.

WWE perhaps only uptil recently in my opinion has never been about fitting into the normal and regular and has always embraced being slightly taboo and different with its larger than life characters and eccentric storylines but that's because its Wrestling and Entertainment and the reason why we ignore the haters and tune in every week and buy the PPV's because wrestling is different and still not totally accepted in modern society and we love it for being that way.
