Kevin Nash's Next Angle

The controversial wrestling star has made a fortune in the ring and is making headway in Hollywood. So why can't he sleep at night?

By Thomas Golianopoulos on August 7, 2012

Last December, during his final match in World Wrestling Entertainment, Kevin Nash, one of the most successful and recognizable professional wrestlers of his generation, fell off a ladder and through a table. He thought the table would cushion the blow. Instead, it caused his second concussion of the night. Minutes later, Paul "Triple H" Levesque pinned Nash. It was a worthy swan song. Backstage, Nash ran into Vince McMahon. "I think we saved your best for last," the WWE chairman and CEO told him.

Once he returned home to Daytona Beach, Nash, 53, buzzed his long black mane, allowing it to grow in gray. He first wore the gray hair and beard a few years back in TNA Impact Wrestling to resemble one of his favorite movie tough guys, Wade Garrett, Sam Elliott's character in Road House. Now it keeps him grounded. "When my hair is dyed, I feel like I'm 35 again," he says. "Our business feeds that Peter Pan mentality."

During his wrestling career, the sarcastically charismatic Nash was the smartest guy in the room. The center of attention. Big Sexy. Big Daddy Cool. Here, sitting in a restaurant in Daytona, cupping a glass of unsweetened iced tea, the veneer's gone; he's introspective. His face is smooth, unwrinkled. (He denies having undergone plastic surgery.) His Native American features are more pronounced in person than on television. He is, of course, still massive

I'm not sure when he first talked about it, but it's been on at least one of the shoot interviews in the last few years. It seems like another "I didn't even have the book at the time"-esque fib.

Interesting read. Thanks for posting it. Nash clearly knows how the business works and how to make it work for him to make him better off.

Disagree with the Guererro/Benoit comment. I thought that was a amazing way to end Wrestlemania, was a great moment as showed two friends who worked hard to achieve their dreams finally doing so in front of the world together.

that he had missed the show because he had eaten a tray of hashcakes. Is that true?

What Nash says in the footnotes..

Here's Nash's recollection of the event: "Those things hit me and I couldn't breathe. I don't know if you have ever eaten marijuana or cannibas. This was like chronic, chronic, chronic and I ate like a pan that day. It was like an ounce of weed. I feel like someone was pressing. I started sweating, and psychosomatically I worked myself up and my pulse went from 70 to 100 just psychosomatically. So I called 911. I woke up Christmas morning, went to the gym, trained heavy, heavy legs. My glutes are the biggest muscle parts. I go in and they took a sample … When your heart has a heart attack there is a chemical in your system, and that chemical went through the roof because I had trained legs. It was in my body, not my heart. They took a scan of my heart because they couldn't see the bottom of my heart. It looked like half of my heart was functioning. Imagine who is at the hospital on Christmas Day. Who gets that job? The worst cardiologist. If you're working Christmas, you're absolute shit. He's telling me I had a heart attack, I don't know. I look over and my heart looks completely fine, no irregular heartbeat. They gave me some Valium. My pulse is 64. My blood pressure is 112/70. I see a cardiologist. Long story short, I woke up two days later and saw Titanic with my wife and I was fine. Stay away from edibles, kids."

I love Nash but he must be trolling when it comes to the Beniot/Guerrero stuff just to get a rise/attention from the interment mole people (and its probably worked).

It would be interesting to see who he thinks should be stars these days if its based on size? Mason Ryan, Jackson, Show, Khali, Kane are giants but combos of them would be awful.

Another thing Nash and WWE aswell talk about guys being to small but rarely mention HBK being a 'midget' a very, very talented midget but still no bigger than most and Beniot and Guerrero had better builds but that did kill them in the end.

He's a funny guy but his comments about B&G are just wrong. Maybe not Benoit, but Eddie had all the attributes to make a champ. If his life hadn't been cut short he still would've been on top and a bigger star than Nash will ever be. Nash just rode the coattails of Shawn (who, by the way, is probably the same size as Eddie, so not sure how that works.), came in on a killer angle and then worked with Hogan to get his own way in WCW. He's a funny guy but full of shit.

Considering Nash was one of the main guys in the WWF from pretty much the start of his run and a huge star upon his return to WCW with the fantastic nWo I highly doubt Guerrero would have got anywhere near that level considering he seemed unable to cope with the pressure of being a Champion. Nash has been a big star for nearly 20 years while Eddie was good I doubt he'd have had the same success as Nash had he lived.

Nash was a star for maybe 4 years ('94-'98). After WCW he had a failed NWO re-run and some forgettable stints in TNA/WWE. He hasn't been relevant since WCW in 1998.

Nash is a funny guy and I see his point in a sense, but he does forget two things:

  1. his best mate Shawn Michaels is around that size and as noted earlier, he's always very quiet about that fact when slating the vanilla midgets
  2. the business had already been dead for three years by WrestleMania XX

And also that he was WWF Champion and the bottom dropped out of the ratings, live gate and PPV buyrates. He must be trolling to say that shit about Benoit & Guerrero because for someone who seems so smart it's a completely retarded comment. I can understand his point about Punk & Bryan but Eddie and Chris were both fucking jacked when they became champs. They didn't look like small guys you wouldn't looks twice at, they looked like wrestlers.
