Yeah the whole thing seemed odd from the get-go. In the unlikely as fuck event that Floyd was ever going to have some mad hybrid fight, you’d have to think it would probably be in Vegas, against Conor McGregor in the UFC, but more likely not at all. Him going to Japan to fight a Japanese kickboxer hardly anyone outside Japan had heard of would’ve been weird as fuck.

The Japanese have form for this kind of thing though. Remember in the mid 2000s when they used the UFC to promote Pride coming to the US, with Wanderlei Silva out there in a Pride t-shirt live on a UFC PPV teasing a fight with Chuck Liddell, only for Pride to go ‘nah not doing that now’ once they’d got what they wanted? This is no doubt something similar. What better way to draw attention to Rizin as a promotion, and Tenshin Nasukawa in particular, than attaching Floyd Mayweather’s name to themselves?

it worked, i knew the name prior because i knew he was Rizin's new poster boy but hes definitely more on my radar now though.

As for similar situations, remember Tyson and Bob Sapp going at in in K-1? That was never gonna happen either, i just think they pay these guys to appear and just do pro-wrestling type angles to generate publicity.

Yeah same, I’m definitely more interested in seeing Tenshin fight now. The few clips I’ve seen he looks like someone I’ll love watching.

It was also probably a publicity thing for Mayweather to keep his name out there. Seems he’s up to something in Japan. First he was there with Manny Pacquiao when talks of that rematch started up, now this. He’s planning something.

They said they were going to do a Tyson fight at Shockwave 2006, it was to be held in Macau China (gambling hotspot, that's not under strict Chinese rules) because Tyson wasn't getting in Japan, that was a publicity stunt, he also was used to promote the first Pride USA show. At the same time everybody knew they were losing money as they didn't have Fuji TV paying them because of the yakuza stuff and talking to both the UFC & some billionaire casino owner in Vegas, who financed both USA shows about selling throughout 2006 and were sold early in 2007.

What about when Ken Shamrock announced he was fighting a Gypsy in a bare knuckle fight on PPV? Big announcement then quietly died away.

We won't be seeing the much anticipated Costa Vs Romero fight, for a while at least, as Costa has some kind of injury. However the good news, for everyone not named Anderson Silva, is that Yoel would still like to fight in January against the Spider. I don't know that I would book that fight if I was in the UFC's position, personally I think Silva Vs Adesanya would be the way to go at this point. If Yoel still wants to stay at 185, there aren't many options available, but maybe Connonier?

Silva needs to piss off to Bellator or Japan and get back on the gear. However, Romero v Silva is too good to pass up. As nonsense as it seems, Silva is only a couple of years older than Romero.

Silva has 12 years and 27 fights more though, he's a far older fighter in fight terms than Romero is.

Are we pretending Yoel hasn't spent a significant part of his life succeeding at the grind that is the highest level of wrestling? They both started competing at a good level around the same time, only Yoel started MMA 10 years later and was competing at a higher level earlier in his career.

My point is, Yoel is a monster.

Gutted about Romero vs Costa. Didn’t even know the fight was back on and now it’s off again.

Yoel vs Anderson doesn’t do much for me. I don’t hate it but I’d rather see Anderson vs Adesanya or Till and Romero at 205.

We're not pretending anything, I'm simply pointing out that at this stage Anderson has been in the game at a higher level than Yoel has for far longer and has been on a downward slide for a while now. He's nowhere near the level he once was. A prime Anderson vs a prime Yoel would be interesting, but now? It's like putting Shogun in there with someone who's still near the top of their game.

Putting him in there with someone who could easily make 205lbs would prove fuck all, unless you get off on seeing Anderson get smashed to bits, of course?

Personally, I wouldn't I'd rather he called it a day entirely now if I'm honest. He has nothing else to prove, and fuck all else to gain besides a few paydays.

Again, though, my point was Yoel is a monster for his age. I pulled you up on it because Yoel was being all Olympic-level great during those 12 years, his body has been smashed too. Yoel has admitted that his body is starting to show it's age, just he's such a freak you wouldn't be able to tell. And, of course, Anderson now can't get on his cocktail of PEDs to reverse time.

Of course. My dick is currently facing towards Stark's Park.
