Premier League 2012/2013 Discussion

Recommended Posts

I cringed when I saw the back page of the Mirror this morning, just get over it Luis for Christ's sake, can't see the owners being happy about it, funnily enough my mate mentioned last week that he thought it was more likely for Suarez to go this summer than Carroll, wouldn't surprise me if he carries on dredging shite up that the owners REALLY don't want bringing up

The guy who runs that RAWKMeltdown twitter account must have been made up though. The Suarez thread on there is amazing. The conspiracy theories implied by Suarez in his latest interview predominate, and Dalglish and Suarez themselves are seen as martyrs in the whole affair.

The germ of validity to some of the objections - that the FA required a relatively low standard of proof for a guilty verdict (probable rather than beyond reasonable doubt) - is obscured by the insular, paranoid and above all else self-righteous tone which permeates all discussion of the topic. The actions of the regulatory commission which heard the case are constantly caricatured with public statements by Gordon Taylor given as an example of the commission's inability to judge the intention behind the word 'negrito' despite the fact that the commission was independent of the PFA and didn't include Taylor. Meanwhile the judgements of the academics specialising in South American culture consulted by the commission which were included in the final report are seemingly never mentioned. Probably because they judged that using the word (as Suarez admitted to doing) in as confrontational a manner as Suarez evidently did (according to the video evidence, and contrary to Suarez's statement) would indeed be perceived as racially insensitive in that part of the world.

Its a bit fascinating, actually. Someone could write a dissertation on it.

Bloody hell, thanks for making me aware of that, I'll never do any work today now!

This is my favourite that I've read so far:-

I'd be fucking ashamed to have won the way they (Chelsea) did (Champions League)

Amazing.

There is a Chelsea meltdown one as well, not nearly as funny as the RAWK one, probably because I imagine Hitmannumbers provides 47% of the RAWK ones.

Is hitmannumbers one of the best known posters on RAWK and if so what's the general opinion of him? Is he viewed as a village idiot or one of the guys?

So... Nobody actually read the full suarez interview then? This was just a small part of it. Tbh i think he is over it but what if he'd refused to answer questions? The press would have been "suarez admits racism" or something.

Yes it was unwise to answer it but either way he'd have come out the interview with some controversy regarding the matter.

And keith tbh ive pretty much stayed out of the suarez debate on rawk.

Probably for the best considering your Twitter breakdown a few months ago.

No they wouldnt. If he was asked questions about either incident, he could just say something like; "All that is behind me now, everything is on public record, I have no further comment"; and just move on with the interview.

Hardly a "breakdown" i felt at the time the guy was harshly dealt with on some pretty flimsy evidence which would never have got him charged by the cps.

But whilst i do agree with what he's saying (and to denyi Agree with him would be pretty ridiculous considering my statements at the time) i do think he's potentially making matters worse for himself theres a very good chance he's facing a fa charge now for his comments (im assuming the fa can charge him for those comments)?

His best way of getting people to move on from it would be to have a great season with us.

Mind i cant believe jen chang let him do the interview without checking what would be asked.

You say 'either way' as if the choices open to him were to say nothing or to imply that the original trial and subsequent handshake controversy were engineered by a conspiracy between Man United, the FA and the British press. I imagine there is a middle ground, somewhere.

My point was more if he didnt answer the questions theres a implication there of him admitting guilt or whatever. But like i say whilst i agree with him its not going to do him any favours. He's bound to get a fa charge and possible ban again. And if the club are serious about him not talking about it he could get a fine there or warning off em.

Only if you're delusional and paranoid. Or if Man Utd wield their power again.

Clearly it's time to move on. I doubt Suarez gives much of a shit what anyone in England (who's not a red) thinks of him, any more.

If the FA don't charge Terry, though, my tantrum/meltdown will be really quite spectacular. You're going to love it.

I imagine JT and Anton Ferdinand will both face charges of bringing the game into disrepute for stuff they've admitted to saying during the trial, Anton should be punished for the elbow as well. I don't see how the FA could get away charging Terry with anything racial after he's been found not guilty in court.

Rio's an idiot, but everyone knew that already, he was pushing things on twitter even before the "choc-ice" thing.
