WWF Magazine

Not sure if these were my first but certainly around the time as these are two memorable ones from my youth, which I now own again having bought quite a few 92/93 wwf magazines a couple of years ago for collecting/nostalgia purposes. I've got a bunch of WCW ones too, most issues from the glory days of 1991-1993. Quite a few little digs and jibes back then in the WCW ones if you looked hard enough, some at Ric Flair when he left I seem to remember.

EDIT - Damn it, i've just got to get my magazines out now. Funny how things prompt you.

My first one was the Flair one from February 92 in the opening post. I didn't get another one though until Aug/Sept 93 with Luger on the cover after he'd turned face. I used to buy them monthly after that until Jan 99. Looking back, one of my favourite memories was seeing the big adverts for the coliseum videos and the Hasbro's, and then being pissed off that I couldn't find them anywhere in the UK for ages after I'd seen the ad's.

I think thats the first one I bought when it was actually on the newstands, I think it a big hasbro ad inside that featured the Shawn Michaels prototype that never got made with the "punch" action like the Jake figure. I was well pissed-off that the Hogan/Bret match was off.

This was my first;

I lent it to Jamie Murray and he lent me a video taped off Sky Sports. That was the first wrestling I ever saw. All I remember was it had a Warlord match on it.

I would love to know what it was... I honestly watched about 5 minutes of the tape and was hooked; so much so that my Mum made me turn it off as I was going to a hugely anticipated Fire Station visit with the Cubs (Baden-Powell, not Chicago)

We got to clamber all over the trucks, wear the gear and use the hoses etc. and all I could thing about was getting back to watch the rest.

Good memories

Did the first or second edition of Raw magazine not come out over here, or come out really late and get replaced by the following issue really quick? I recall some kind of issue (lol) with it. Great mag for years there though. It's still the best wrestling magazine ever done. Although the last issue I found of mine wasn't much cop, it was basically an entire issue of Vince vs Mainstream Media after he kicked off in that telly interview.

My brother-in-law once saw the one with the Sunny lingerie cover in my bedroom and thought it was a porn magazine. He was gutted when he found out it was a wrestling mag. I did have loads of wanks over it, mind. The magazine, not the situation.

This was my first too. Cracking cover photo that. I didn't even watch WWF back then, as we didn't have Sky at home, but WWF was so big at the time though that I was still mad on it, without actually following it. I knew more about the characters through the magazines and trading cards than I did from watching them.

No, it came out here, but didn't get a big run at the start. I had to get mine from a shitarse newsagent. I bought them all until about 2003.

Our newsagents took ages getting it in. The Shawn With His Cock Out issue. After that, they had it in all the time. I remember me and Mickfan went on a school trip to see Mid Summer Nights Dream with our English classes, and we got a DX special issue. It was great. Probably my favourite issue. Interviews with them all, post break up. Road Dogg was basically saying "I've no idea where my characters going. I need DX". The lad had zero confidence. Which was a contrast to the WWF Magazine article, where Road Dogg is stating his case to take over the WWF, with a new stable called "The Dogg House". Which never happened. Shame.

Agree about the quality though. It had wank material, actually interesting articles and insider snipes about WCW. It was great. Vince Russo's philosophy on writing was great for the magazine. It had bits of everything. Russo's article at the front of the magazine was always good for a laugh as well. He would just shoot on people every month. The biggest casualty of Russo leaving the WWF, was that Raw magazine was never quite the same.

This an absolute long shot, but before my collection of wrestling mags were chucked out I remember one of my favourite pictures was of one of the Headbangers bleeding all over the place after being hit by a boom box from the New Age Outlaws. The cut on Thrasher's (maybe Mosh's?) head was absolutely horrific yet strangely captivating. Anybody know where I could find that image?

Mine was the Warrior at Wrestlemania 6 one. Had some quality ads for some Two Player Nintendo controllers and Mountain Dew on it as well.

Of everything that I keep from my uneccesarily vast collection of wrestling shite, I'm certain it's the magazines that will go with me to the grave. I absolutely love them, and get them out to read all the time. Power Slams have a bit more durability so they get time in the magazine rack in the shitter too. My Raw's and WWF Mags are in A4 Folders in plastic wallets, like a proper fucking nerd. Easy access and everything. It's been discussed a billion times on here but 96-99 Raw Magazine is blatantly the best thing that's ever happened in wrestling.

Ian's point about the Road Dogg in that DX article is bang on. It really stuck with me, that piece. It basically boils down to:

HHH: It's about time I got my push. I'm going to be the absolute best in the whole world and I needed shot of this albatross. And Chyna as well. She's over, I'm having her.

X-Pac: I'll be alright, I got my movez and my weed.

Billy Gunn: My singles run isn't exactly ace, but I'll keep my fingers crossed, look at my muscles.

Road Dogg: There go my fucking t-shirt cheques. Shit.
