Vamp is awesome. Its great fun in the same vain as Night of the Creeps. Apparently Rodriguez and Tarantino had to get the green light from the producers of Vamp when they were making From Dusk Til Dawn. Hayek is a vast improvement on Jones mind you.

Would LOVE to get Stage Fright on Blu-ray. Its up there with The Burning, Silent Night Deadly Night, Jack Frost and Friday the 13th parts 4-10 on my slasher most wanted list.

If anyones interested theres a fantastic coffee table book called Teenage Wasteland on the history of slasher films. I highly recomend it. Its full colour and has the most amazing photos/artwork. Not to mention is a great read.

Still never seen The Exorcist and I think any effect it would have had on me will be totally lost after all the parodies and references I've seen in other films/shows.

The first time I went to see it was on the Halloween it was rereleased. It was getting laughs from the audience for the first half (not helped by my friend loudly singing the Indiana Jones theme tune in the opening desert scene), but the place was silent by the actual exorcism. The posession story has dated rather badly, but the story involving the priest and his lack of faith being exploited by the Devil? That is fantastic, and gets better with repeated viewings.

The first time I saw it, I found it disappointing. The second time, I liked it a lot more. The third time, it became one of my favourite films.

I think the first half of the movie is actually the creepiest part. It has this sense of dread and inevitable impending doom right round the corner. And the hospital scenes are horrific. Even when Reagan just briefly mentions her ouiji board friend "Captain Howdy" it freaks the shit out of me. The more times I watch it the more freaky and disturbing little things I notice. A true masterpiece and one of the best films ever made.

"Spare some change for an old choir boy, Father?" is scarier than the whole of Paranormal Activity.

Def dont ever put Jack Frost in the same league as burning thats offensive :)

Ha, Jack Frost is a riot. Its definately one of my favourite slasher/monster oddities. I think the chances of seeing it on bluray are pretty slim. I think theres a much better chance of The Burning get the hd treatment. I know Arrow are interested in getting the rights.

Has anyone seen the Spanish short film La Cabina? One of the nastiest stings in the tail you'll ever see.

Okay, so I just watched this in my lunch-break and I'm not going to do any more work today. That was awesome. Everyone go and watch it now, it's only half an hour long:-

Given the distinct lack of any 'modern' horror films in the top 40 (just 5 from the past 20 years) do we think there's a lack of decent new horror films? I was watching a documentary about 'shock rock' & Alice Cooper was saying that he believes people are basically unshockable now. the internet has opened the door to all of life's real atrocities so for people to be genuinely disturbed by fiction, en masse as they were when say 'The Exorcist' was originally released it would take something ridiculously extreme to get any kind of (big) reaction.

Now I have the uncut version of Jack Frost 2 it has a bit of goofy charm but UK dvd i had that was the TV edit was tough for even me to get through. I have both Killjoys and I like them about the same as JF2. Sort of think Killjoy was to much of a wasted opertunity to really get behind. Should give the first another go though. I barely remember it.

I dont think its that people have become unshockable I think its a mix of (as mentioned before) films losing their mystique because they are so well promoted now and how they are made. For years horror was popular with movie studios because they were cheap to produce and performed well and they would farm them out to young Directors who would work cheap and could do whatever they wanted as long as they did it on budget. You just have to look at the amount of people that directed for Roger Corman that became huge to see that it was a great way to make films and find talent. Someone like Wally Pfister (A fantastic DoP) spent years working on direct to video horror so you have direct to video guff like The Unborn which looks incredible. 90% of horror films that are created now are higher budgeted and consist of jump cuts and musical cues to get a scare or, even worse, consist of lazily added CGI effects done in post. I wont go back through the list but I would be shocked if the majority of 'newer' films that made the list weren't either foreign or independently produced

No, you just have to know where to look. There is great stuff being released all over the world on a pretty regular basis. My recommendation would be to steer clear of most specialist horror movie websites because they generally don't know what they are talking about and stick closer to general critical opinion.

I can't be bothered, but someone should work out who is the most represented director in that list and see if its similar to who we'd all consider the best/most important horror director of all time.

Personally, i'm chuffed to see George Romero represented so well.

Night... and Dawn... always make these lists, but it's nice to see Day... get some recognition as it is a great film in its own right.

I see Raimi twice, and Cronenburg twice as well as Romero. John Carpenter is on the list 3 times for Halloween, The Thing and The Fog.
