Like most people who ever went to wrestling shows in the south west, Mad Eli was one of those "characters" who could be annoying as a fan but was lovely as a bloke. I did get to routinely abuse him, even telling him to "hurry up and die, old man", which was a help getting over as a heel in front of unfamiliar crowds. Like most of us, he was no doubt a bit odd, but I'm glad I knew him.

Saw him referred to as an "institution" on Twitter - and I think that hits the nail on the head . You always knew an eventful night was on the cards when Eli showed up. A proper character. My sincere condolences to those who knew him well.
