Paid Members Stephanie Posted February 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 6, 2012 Just wondering if anyone here has had it? I've just been diagnosed with severe Carpal Tunnel in BOTH of my hands. I'll find out when I go for surgery tomorrow. Not having both hands done at the same time. From what I can gather it's pretty non-invasive. Not looking forward to the aftermath though, I'll be outta work for some time. To give background, I never experienced any symptoms until I became a Cashier over here in the US. For almost a year it's been getting gradually worse. Dropping things all the time, numbness and sometimes the pain is so bad I can't even manage simple things like brushing my hair and buttoning up clothing. Paid Members Murtz Posted February 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 6, 2012 My mum had both of her hands done, but because she's a teacher she couldnt do both at the same time, so she ended up doing the left hand first and the right hand a few months later. The hardest thing she found was trying to sleep without rolling over on her hand, apart from that she thought the surgery made a slight difference on her left hand and a major difference on her right. She has since then had her left hand done again, and its feel much better now. Â Hope it all goes well!
patiirc
Me ma and my exs ma's have both had this done.  Basically they are slitting your wristsn stuff to sort out the problem, correct?  It appears to be a good fix and both say to follow the Dr's advice and wait for stuff to settle down before trying because its much harder when trying to be yourself and doing everything whilst your surgery is still healing. Apparently not going with the specialists advice results in muchos pain.  They are both fine now and both had one hand and then the other done  Hope it works out for you
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted February 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 6, 2012 My drummer had to have it done, as his inability to keep a tight grip on his sticks was causing bruising to the back of my head. Â Long rod with snippers on the end went in through the middle of his hand, up the inside of his forearm, and cut the problematic nerve. Aside from the area that they entered needing to heal, the effect was pretty much instantaneous.
Loki
My Dad's had this on both hands, it's dramatically improved his life. A miracle of modern surgery, I'd say.

Paid Members Stephanie Posted February 7, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 7, 2012 I'll be having both hands done two weeks apart. Apparently I'm going to be outta work for 2 months. Thank God for Health Insurance otherwise this would be costing me close to $20,000... I had a Cortisone injection in my left Carpal Tunnel this morning. That wasn't pleasant at all. It's helping relieve some of the pain though. Â Thanks for the replies
Paid Members Stephanie Posted April 5, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted April 5, 2012 The surgery is done under local anesthesia with IV sedation. I'm going in for my right hand done tomorrow. Kinda bricking it!
Jonathan Ford
Piece of cake - 15 minute procedure, you'll be fine. They'll probably let you watch if you want. All the best.
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted April 5, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 5, 2012 What are the options if it goes wrong? Do you get a full on robot hand, or just a hook? Can you have a bracket, so you can keep swapping attachments, like the bad guy out of Enter The Dragon?

No, but every time you have a one-in-a-bed-romp, it feels like someone else is doing it
ajmcstyles
This fear with surgery is stupid when you step are able to look at yourself from a other persons view but inside its fucking scary. Â Ive had a Carpal Boss shaved down on my right hand and it was my first operation back in August I was 25 and fuck me I was bricking it when they laid me down and that needle went in but what a nice feeling the local anaesthetic give off it was nice thinking back that I actually fell asleep that quickly for the first time in my life. After that my hand was like a oven glove and I couldnt even press the R1 and R2 buttons on my xbox controller. Shame they did such a shit job and the lump is still there in my hand I will will need to have the operation again since a simple knock on my right hand still hurts. Â Since then Ive had two other operations inserting and removing a heart monitor under my skin just above my heart. Long story short I know its a simple operation and they will sedate me but I still panicked its stupid that we do panic but it cant be helped. Â I hope the operation went ok and your recovering well
Paid Members Stephanie Posted April 11, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted April 11, 2012 Well, I wasn't conscious so I definitely wasn't able to watch! Â However, it all went well. My hand is very very sore, pretty much black and blue. Had my first physio appointment today and they said I was healing well. Â My left hand is being done next week, which will be the real test. Being a leftie and all. Â It's been hell with regards to doing every day things. Getting dressed, showering etc. All for the greater good though. Paid Members Stephanie Posted May 14, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted May 14, 2012 Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this. I was out because I was sedated along with the anesthesia.
