Retro Red
The rumour going around was that the game will be set in real world LA. The V of the logo being styled like US currency has resurfaced that rumour today. They have the assets (LA Noire was a 40s LA and Midnight Club LA also) to mine in order to make it less of a huge task.
Steve Justice
The vastness, the change in scenery, the mountain, flying a fighter jet, driving a hovercraft down the street, the BMX, Area 51, the jetpack, the casino, the radio stations... just so, so much about SA aside from the main story was fantastic in every way. Yes the graphics suffered a bit, but for the time and the consoles they were run on, it was still a top effort. I personally loved the story and the majority of the characters. Some of the missions were a bit annoying (Zero was a cock), but some were great like the Oceans 11 style casino heist. Â Tough to decide which is the better game. SA or RDR. Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted October 25, 2011 Author Moderators Share Posted October 25, 2011 I love these videos, from fiddling around with GTA 4's settings:
Paid Members JNLister Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 San Andreas is still the only game in the series that I'd load up solely to "go out for a drive" rather than play the game. I'd kill to see the same setting on current generation consoles. Â As for ideal setting, I still maintain that one day somebody will hook-up the GTA engine to Google Street View and let you play anywhere in the world. Â More realistically, I wonder if GTA V will allow users to create and share their own missions.
Kiffy
See this is what I mean re gta4 being less fun, sickboy wants to be a black 90's LA gangsta (as do I, to be fair, growing up on ice cube and ice t and all that good shit will do that) some want to be tony montana (me too) some want to be a high level mafioso (also me too). No-one ever said, "How cool was that eastern european gangsta who'se probably been involved in war crimes," so no-one's evere wanted to be him. Which was probably my main issue with GTAIV. Kiffy
Plus things like the gang warfare kicking off in san andreas, different bits of the city in different colours kicking off with each other and different alliances. That's the type of stuff I wanted to see continued or added to in gta4.
Paid Members Burchill's Buddy Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Yeah I enjoyed all that stuff, and the tag locations too. I missed buying up houses and businesses, nothing made me feel more like a badass kingpin than in Vice City, driving around thinking to myself "I own that place, that's my strip club, that's my car lot" etc. Really made it feel like you had made an impact on the city. Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted October 25, 2011 Author Moderators Share Posted October 25, 2011 I want side missions back too, the taxi/ambulance/vigilante stuff.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 I want side missions back too, the taxi/ambulance/vigilante stuff. Â Yes. I spent two weeks solid doing the vigilante missions on Vice City before I finally completed them all. My blood pressure probably rose to death-defying levels doing them. They were great. Paid Members Burchill's Buddy Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 I'm assuming because we're back out of New York that we might be able to play with planes again too.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 Hopefully. I wasn't a fan of all the plane/copter missions in San Andreas (that last one in the training desert strand took me about 45 minutes to complete and almost caused me a nervous breakdown) but most of them were great fun. Paid Members Burchill's Buddy Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 Oh god I remember the one, where you had to do a loop around the airfield. I think there were driving lesson ones I struggled more with but yeah that was tough. Still though, being able to fly around and base jump from a plane was awesome. Trying to land a plane on the strip a la Con Air was always a fun challenge too
Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted October 25, 2011 Author Moderators Share Posted October 25, 2011 Planes and choppers are fun to jack and ride around in, but I hate when they appear in missions. Any mission I've had to do more than once invariably has a chopper involved. I shat myself when one showed up in the final part of GTA 4's last mission. Shat myself, and immediately piloted it straight into the sea.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 25, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2011 Yeah, they were a mixed bag, the lessons. There was a driving one that drove me nuts for days as well but I can't remember exactly what it was. Most of them were great, though. Â The thing I liked most about San Andreas were the out of city areas. The Badlands and the desert were just awesome. Initially I thought I was going to hate them and that I would never get used to the sheer size of the game area, but they grew on me really quickly. Â I remember bronzing it fairly easily but it probably took me 3 or 4 days of frustration and controller throwing before I got gold on it. Not only the time but not being able to take any damage made it so fucking hard. Edited October 25, 2011 by Burchill's Buddy
