Some random person on the internet recommended this promotion and in particular this one video (im not sure if im allowed to post a link but the video is called EPW HELL OR HIGH WATER 2011 RECAP on youtube) and it looks ABSALOUTLEY SUBLIME. But it got me thinking, whats the crack with australian wrestling ? Does anyone know anything about the aussie end of the buisness ? And if promotions like EPW exist how come we 'in the west' hear so little about them ? These guys could obviously a lot of the yanks and brits a trick or two. (nb: EPW Explosive Pro Wrestling)

I was in Britwres and now in Australian Wrestling (guesses for who I am) so I'll run it all down you later.

EPW is the best fed in Australia by far.

Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls are both currently on their 2nd Pro Wrestling NOAH tour. They are there for 3+ months. Known as TMDK (Team Mega Death Kill).

More to follow. Feel free to ask questions. :)

For some odd reason I actaully have been following Aussie wrestling for quite a while now and the the scene there is acatully pretty good with great talent.

EPW used to have two branches, in Perth and in Adelaide (which is now known as NWA Pro Australia) and over the years it have produced some great local talent, many of them are working in the indies of SoCal and a few also managed to work in Japan for NOAH (Haste and Nicholls) and Zero-One (Robby Heart, Slex, Wreckin' Ball Wilson and Hartley Jackson). Both promotions in my opinion are the best in the land and they pretty much never bring over any workers outside of Australia (only on rare occasions like Dick Togo 2 months ago), they solely depend on there own talent and with that they actaully tend to draw very well with large crowds (http://nwaaustralia.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/thebarton-theatre.jpg). EPW also had a television show back in 2008/09 - "Monday Night Wrestling" ran for two seasons and did a great job showcasing the local talent.

Outside EPW and NWA Pro I'd say there's around 25 promotions across the country with a few that are doing well, such as:

IWA (http://www.iwawrestling.com.au/news.php) that works a Dixon's All-Star style of wrestling with almost the same busy schedule. The promotion is run by Mark Mercedes, a guy who was trained by the Malenko family and some might remember him jobbing to Rick Steiner in WWA's The Reckoning and a few years back he worked for Fujinami's Muga in Japan.

AWF (http://www.awfwrestling.com.au/) is the only promotion who regularly bring over international talent, as over the years AWF brought well known names such as Corino, CIMA, NOSAWA, Raven (who held the promotion's title), Sonjay Dutt, Danielson etc. The promotion is run by Greg Bownds, a guy who was trained by Rey Misterio (the original one) and is known as a sloppy talentless wrestler who has no charisma whatsoever as you can see in the promotion's TV show "This is AWF Wrestling" -

(just skip to 0:46 to witness the horror).

PWA (http://www.pwaaustralia.com/) - don't know much about this promotion, but they tend to draw well and bring over some of the best Australia has to offer.

I must admit, I have a soft spot for the Australian backyard videos on Youtube. They're the best backyard vids i've seen from anywhere, apart from maybe this US fed that was held in a playground. By all accounts, most of these backyarders are actually pro's (they do seem like it aswell, to be fair) but they do backyard because the scene in Oz sucks. But judging from what you guys have said, it certainly doesn't seem that way..

If your going to be in Perth you should really check EPW's Re-Awakening X in Nov 12th - I'd say it's by far the best annual wrestling event in Australia.

I'm also on my way to Australia in 2012 for a year long stay (with a few visits to the near by islands).

Did Marcus Kool from the Midlands not go down under? If you're not him, anyone know how he's getting on?

Going to Melbroune, but I imagine a visit to Perth would be possible at some point.

Aye, it's not just a skip and a jump across the road or a cheap bus journey though. A year-long stay is fine but if people are going to Australia for a short period of time there should be a million things on the list ahead of going to see wrestling.

Forgot about the Melbroune scene which is quite good with a few great promotions such as:

I'm going for two years, and we've got a big Perth visit pencilled in sometime in late 2012.
