CRW 'Blood, Sweat & Beers': SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th 2011

CRW

Recommended Posts

Well, we're currently awaiting our redesigned website to go live with its relaunch, so, will be filling the merchandise section on there ASAP & filling the DVD section of past shows as quickly as we can.

Personally, from my own stand point & from the feedback I received from fans (although there are 'some' slight inconsistencies you'll notice yourself perhaps upon viewing, LOL) I would highly recommend last years 'Rise or Fall' DVD featuring Lionheart vs. Chaos as the Main Event.

We had a lot riding on this show as 'Rise or Fall' is our 'WrestleMania' of calendar events if you will and is the event we will be trying to pull out all the big stops for each & every year.

It's also sold a good few copies since its release in July.

Also, it features a very good bout between 'Tyneside Titan' Lowthian against BT Gunn which was considered a MOTN candidate by many in attendance.

Heard good things about Rise or Fall. How much is the dvd?

'Purfect' Purdie defeat. Davey Blaze

In one of his toughest challenges yet to date, CRW's own 'Purfect' Purdie picked himself up a win over the equally talented Davey Blaze in a stellar opening contest.

6 Man Scramble Match:

Paragon Smith defeat. Nik Minto, Cohash McQuade, Sean Minto, Lucas Marvel & C.K. Edwards

Our host & announcer for this evening, Stallion, decided to make this match a little more interesting by adding a drinking game to the mix with crowd participation.

Each Wrestler chose somebody from the crowd to represent them & whoever won the drinking game, got their represented Wrestler to start the match with a Kendo Stick.

However, Stallion believed that Cohash McQuade's representative wasn't of legal age & he had no I.D. on him, so Disqualified Cohash from the game & had new CRW General Manager Micky Cain escort him from the building.

Lucas Marvel's representative won the drinking game, however, before the Kendo Stick could be presented to him & before the Bell rang, C.K. Edwards had already sneaked off & grabbed it, laying out all 5 competitors before the bout even began. C.K. seemed to have the advantage until Cohash fought back, pulling out his Guitar Case & beating everybody with it. Cohash then proceeded to open his Guitar Case, only to pull out............ A FRYING PAN!

Cohash then started laying waste to everybody's Heads with said Frying Pan before being chased up a Pole by everybody. Each competitor made attempts to pull Cohash down but to no avail..... So, they beat him down from the Ankles with the Kendo Stick.

In the end though, after brawling ensued in & outside the ring, Paragon Smith would walk out victorious.

'Loser Leaves CRW' Hardcore Match:

Martin Kirby defeat. JWC

This match was far from comedy!

JWC knew going into this match the consequences of the stipulation, however, managed to barter Kirby into putting his spot in the Main Event of Rise or Fall for the Heavyweight Title on the line also should he be able to overcome the ever popular Kirby, not only vanquishing Kirby from CRW, but also claiming that Heavyweight Title shot!

After the two men brawled all over (including a trip into the Ladies Toilets by the two) in a very competitive match, it was not to be for good ol' JWC.

Lionheart defeat. Assassin

In a thrilling bout which saw Assassin smashed right through a Steel Baricade, Chair Shots galore & Lionheart almost causing outright riots, this match too went all over the place!

Just when it looked like Assassin was about to put one of the best Scottish Wrestler's on the UK Scene away with a Chair & gaining revenge from the Chair Shots earlier, Lionheart Super Kicked the Chair right into Assassin's Face & polished him off with his patented Frog Splash for the win.

6 Man Tag Team Match: 'Nay DQ, Broon Ale Brawl' Match:

'Tyneside Titan' Lowthian, The 'Hired Gun' Graham Robson & Justin Thorne defeat. Fight Club (Kid Fite & Liam Thomson) & Noam Dar

In the most brutal, most sadistic, most outrageous, most violent match of the night, The Geordie's & Geordie representative showed the Scots just how to Kick Arse when ya oot in the toon!

From a heated war of words between the 6 men earlier in the night, temperatures & blood were rising & it showed. Not one item or object in the club was safe, if it wasn't nailed or screwed down it got used, nor were the fans safe with these crazy mentalists just wanting to rip & tear into each other!

Fighting at the Bar, on the Bar, behind the Bar, you name it, they did it! And the crowd went mental!

A Suicide Dive from the big man, The 'Hired Gun' which looked absolutely immense took out Noam & Liam whilst Fite was able to step out the way just in a nick of time & was well on his way to claiming the win for his team.

Just as it looked as though the Scots had it in their favor, The Titan was able to put Kid Fite away for the 1-2-3.

The Wrestling Press' review of CRW Blood, Sweat and Beers can be seen at this link: http://thewrestlingpress.com/?p=6113

Thoroughly enjoyed the show, drink was cheap considering it was Tiger Tiger and everyone seemed to have fun, wrestlers included, so let's hope it's the first of many 18+ shows, they add a new dimension to CRW for sure.

Thanks for the review Andrew, great write up as always & glad you enjoyed the show.

Hope you enjoyed the show too Benny, look forward to hearing your thoughts, good or bad.

Official attendance was 95. Obviously not the draw we were hoping for, but in all honesty, a lot more Promoting went into 'Limitless' than 'Blood, Sweat or Beers' and this was our first attempt at an 18+ show just to see what it would be like. Personally, I think the show went down well, all the guys bust their arses & gave it their all & if we go into doing anymore 18+ Shows in future they'll most certainly be better promoted next time.

We also expected a few Freshers to be out but they didn't start hitting the town til about 9 / 10 last night.

Oh well, win some, lose some, but after last nights showing, we're definitely interested in promoting some more 18+ shows in future.

For those who attended, would you like Tiger Tiger as the venue again or should we see if we can try another club setting?

Thoughts?

Obviously, depending on lay out of course as not all clubs will be ideal.

Your welcome mate, really enjoyed writing it up.

As you said, 95 isn't the draw you expected, but the people who were there contributed to a great atmosphere. Obviously, more flyers around town would've helped but it's a learning curve for everyone and it was an experience which everyone can take positives from.

I must admit, I wasn't a fan of the actual room, the ring being in the corner didn't look great at first, although I came around to it once I saw the 6 man tag descend into chaos around the bar, it was wild and it had everyone going mental, so it worked.

I would definitely do another 18+ show, as I said on Sunday, if promoted a lot more, it could be fun to run a club show twice a year, one in Summer and one in Winter, make them themed nights for fans and have them interact even more than they did on Sunday night. The drinking contest with Stallion and the fans chosen was brilliant and I think that was the moment that the fans in attendance really connected with the show as the atmosphere was weak for the first match, which was no fault of Blaze and Purdie as they put on a hell of a match.

All in all though, a great night and hope for more of the same!

Will write a proper review when i have the time but for now a few quick reviews and the holy shit and funny moments.

Promo at the begginig went down really well, Kid Fite, Liam Thompson and Noam Dar were great.

Stallion as the host was a brilliant idea who really got the crowd into the matches.

Pudrie vs Blaze was a cracking match and both guys really showed they are ones to watch for the future.

6 man scramble

was solid and funny in equal measure

(notes from scramble)

sean minto's representative for the drinking game managed to pour half of his pint over the ring when necking it then quickly ran away when he still had one life left.

Lucas Marvel's corckscrew from a barrier was sick.

Cohash using the frying pan and then jumping from ring to barrier and up a pole was comedy gold.

Paragons Smiths electric chair into a german looked brutal

Lionheart vs Assassin

not surprisingly this was a cracking match

Lionheart played the heel perfectly and Assassin was over as f**k

Lionheart superkicking a chair into Assassins face and smashing it in the process looked mean as hell

Kirby vs JWC

Kirby and JWC were on top form

JWC flooring Kirby and then taking a senton onto the stone floor after pulling out a grenade (alla chuck taylor) was both funny and showed how serious the match was

Kirby beating JWC into the womans toilet and then both men coming back out JWC with toilet paper stuffed down his throat was hilarious

chants of "you fat c**t to JWC made me laugh

Kirby doing the STOP then Enzuguri combo was brilliant

6 man tag team main event

solid match in the ring to start of with but when the action spilled out thats when shit got real

Noam Dar attemting to stand on a chair and double stomp the prone hired gun looked like it was going to be brutal, until Noam fell off the chair and landed flat on his face.

Hired Gun necking a bottle of beer in preparation of spitting it on Noam was stopped when Dar kicked the hired gun full force in the balls (to the big mans credit after hitting the deck and turning bright red he got back up and still spat the now very warm beer into Dars face

Justin Thorne having a chair broke over his head by Kid Fite was a cringe worthy moment

Lowthian and Kid Fite erm fighting on, around and behind the bar was epic as was their chops to one another

Liam Thompson running to the aid of Dar and booting the Hired Gun was funny but not as funny as when Lowthian came out of no where and just ran into Liam and sent him sailing across the room.

All in all it was a great show with a great atmosphere, if CRW do another over 18 show it will be interesting to see how they top this one

This is the first local wrestling event I have attended in over a year after being a regular fan a few years ago. I lost faith in the Newcastle scene but this event has gone a long way to rejuvenate my interest.

The match quality in general was really good and the thing that struck me most about the wrestlers is that nearly all of them looked the part when compared to other wrestling feds I have seen. Most of the wrestlers have actually seen the inside of a gym and made an effort with their attire.

As Andrew mentioned earlier I wasn't a fan of where the ring was positioned within the room at first but I believed it turned out well. It meant the crowd had to gather together and helped create the atmosphere once it got going.

The drinking contest really helped to lift the crowd and was a great idea.

Maybe next time get a venue which will help promote the event, I may be mistaken but I didn't see any promotional material anywhere in the venue.

If you didn't really put that much effort into promoting the event, 95 people isn't too bad of a turnout. You said CRW that you focused more of the promotion on the Limitless event the night before, just out of interest how many more people did you get for this event?

Count me and wor kid in for Rise and Fall this year, I know it will be a more family friendly affair but I

A little later than first planned, but I can finally get around to putting some thoughts down about this one.

Though I live in the north-east, I've never really followed the Tyne & Wear wrestling scene. I'd seen some of the previous "IWF" and Tyneside-based wrestlers (Assasin, Jed Masters, the Averys, Max Heat, "Geordie Boys", Little Dragon etc) on other shows for other promotions and generally thought they were appalling, with a few exceptions such as Pac and Lewis Chambers.

This show peaked my interest, however, since it promised to be something a little different. First, though I've seen 6-sided rings in the 1990s for AAA, early 2000s for T2P and late 2000s for TNA, I've never seen a show in one live and in person. Secondly, it was right in the middle of Newcastle City Centre, rather than some working mens club, social club or leisure centre in the urban suburbs likle many wrestlng events. Indeed, not only was it slap-bang in the centre, it was in TigerTiger, part of the well-known The Gate entertainment complex and home to the legendary Koosdays. Thirdly, while I was unfamilair with some of the "home" CRW talent on the show, there were plenty of names and faces on the card which I did recognise and rate to the point where it looked a decent offering. With the promise of an 18+ environment, a packed city centre nightclub atmosphere, a more 'adult'-themed event and an early enough promised finish that I'd be able to get home the same night for work the next day, I thought "why not?" and headed on up. I guess I was hoping for something like those insane ICW shows held in Glasgow nightclubs I've seen footage of. There was certainly some of the same talent, though I was left unsure about exactly how rowdy and raucous they expected people to get on a Sunday teatime/evening with most having work etc the next day. The key for this type of thing is to get the casuals in, and seeing as though the universities had just started again, there would probably be plenty about to be interested.

It had been advertised on both UKFF and Facebook that doors opened at 5pm for a 6pm show start. I'd been watching the Man Utd vs. Chelsea game in the Wetherspoons in The Gate, but turned up at 5pm to see a distinct lack of activity. Hmmm. Some wrestling-looking dude outside TigerTiger told me doors would "probably open about 5.30 to 6pm" and gave me a flyer now showing a show start time of 7pm. Hmmm. Back to pub to watch rest of football, including nipping back at 5.30 to confirm my suspicions that it hadn't actually opened. At 6pm, I headed back to TigerTiger where other wrestling-looking people had now gathered in the downstairs bar. Getting myself a bottle in (the bar HAD NO DRAUGHT BEERS ON), it wasn't actually long before people started heading upstairs and a queue formed at the door to the "White Room". About 15 minutes after that, they started letting us all in, including giving us a ticket that confirmed the new show start time of 7pm. Happily, though, ticket prices were actually
