Moderators PowerButchi Posted August 12, 2011 Moderators Posted August 12, 2011 Say what you want about Billy Graham, he was a superb promo. I'd love to see a promo like this repeated today. The angle before it is pretty damned cool as well. Â
Dirty Eddie Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Say what you want about Billy Graham, he was a superb promo. I'd love to see a promo like this repeated today. The angle before it is pretty damned cool as well.  Yeah, a great heated angle that was. Pretty funny that it actually ticks all the boxes that would get you in trouble in WWE now...  Punching a woman - check. Bleeding profusely - check. Belt strangulation - check. Unprotected Chair-shot to head - check.  I found the promo more weird than anything else though. It sounded like he was just reading a poem, rather than 'cutting a promo'. Strange?  Not saying it was crap, or didn't work or anything, just that it wasn't really an example of his charisma.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted August 12, 2011 Moderators Posted August 12, 2011 Not about his charisma for me, just a brilliant promo. The way it's delivered gives it more credence, I'd say. By this time he was Kung Fu Billy Graham, so he wasn't giving it all the "The man of the hour, too sweet to be sour" stuff anyway. It's a really interesting monologue about how he's cleansing his soul in order to be ready to take on the Army of Darkness of whom he was in their charge. Then, when his soul is cleansed he can become the Superstar again.

Oh yeah, I get what the idea was (Kung Fu Graham was a hoot), just seems to me that whoever wrote the monologue and booked the whole deal deserves as much (or more) credit.  Not a slight on Billy at all, dude was a master worker. I wonder who wrote that stuff?
Moderators PowerButchi Posted August 12, 2011 Moderators Posted August 12, 2011 Sullivan was given control over that probably. I imagine he'd have been helping Dusty book.

I wonder who wrote that stuff? writing the monologue is a modern thing, back then guys (especially ones as charismatic as Graham) were given a free reign with what they actually said even if the subject was handed to them
Dirty Eddie Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 writing the monologue is a modern thing, back then guys (especially ones as charismatic as Graham) were given a free reign with what they actually said even if the subject was handed to them I know how scripting in wrestling has evolved, but I think that one in particular was clearly a written passage of text for Graham to speak. For the segment to work, the words needed to be perfect, and a rambling Graham promo wouldn't have worked really.
Leary of Doom Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Regarding Sting, after seeing the way that Hogan and Flair treated their rings, Vince would have to be a fool to induct someone currently wrestling for another company. Heck, he may even be worried about inducting someone supposedly retired! Ghoulish as it soundsn the only way to protect the HOF is Posthumous inductions (on that subject, get Owen in there already!)
Moderators PowerButchi Posted August 13, 2011 Moderators Posted August 13, 2011 (on that subject, get Owen in there already!) Â I can think of 10 people who should go in there first to be fair.
Smeg_&_The_Heads Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Don't they want Owen in there but his wife refuses to allow it and they have to have permission from the next of kin so if he ever does go in WWE will either have to pay her a few million (I doubt she'd even pick up the phone to them for less) and even then I don't think she would do it or wait until shes dead and hope one of his kids allow it.

They don't HAVE to have permission from the next of kin but inducting someone who died on one their shows and against the will of their widow would be pretty much the definition of bad publicity.  She's got enough money from the original settlement and, from what Bret Hart has said, she wants nothing to do with anything about wrestling, including keeping her kids away from the remaining Hart family.
Smeg_&_The_Heads Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 from what Bret Hart has said, she wants nothing to do with anything about wrestling, including keeping her kids away from the remaining Hart family. Â I'm sure I read rumors last year that she even try to sue WWE because on an episode of Raw Bret wore a T Shirt (One he had made up himself) with a photo of Owen printed on it and whilst she couldn't stop them they don't even use much or any footage of him as it would only set her off again. Â I seem to remember when the Hart Family DVD came out a few people bought it quick as they felt she may try to get it banned even though he's not on it that much (for obvious reasons) Â I don't think even Bret on his worse day hated Vince and WWE as much as she does (I'm not saying she doesn't have a good reason to)
