The Invisible Boy Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Well my prediction of Rey vs. whoever is WWE Champion after Summerslam at next week's Raw was right but the way they just announced it before the contract signing was a bit "well what's the point" and especially when Mysterio had just been beaten up by The Miz and couldn't compete against him earlier in the night, it just didn't make much sense after that, although if I'm right in thinking Rey is carrying an injury at the moment then it makes sense for them to save him until next week when he's in his home town but why announce him to face The Miz in the first place, why not just have him not scheduled to wrestle last night but make some sort of appearance in an in ring promo or something, announcing he'll face the WWE Champion in his home town next week, rather than have him look weak. Â Not a bad word to say about Punk again this week and I must say Cena, Johnny Ace and Triple H (and The Rock too) all played their part last night too, Punk's "it went straight to DVD like yours" comment when Triple H asked about his film was hilarious, even Triple H was trying to hold back a smile at that one. I'm not sure what might happen at Summerslam but maybe Triple H will try calling it straight down the middle but he might end up making a mistake and accidently screwing one of them out of it, that's what I think may happen and if it is what happens I think the most likely candidate would be Punk being accidently screwed out of the Title, thus starting the proper feud between Punk and Triple H and allowing Cena to go off and feud with someone else for a while. Â Bit surprised R Truth and Morrison was on last night, I thought seeing as though it was quite a decent and long going feud they would have had that match on Summerslam. The Vickie, Ziggler and Riley stuff was a bit weird, I'm guessing they're heading towards a Ziggler and Vickie break up soon. The diva stuff was pretty much a carry on from last week with Beth just going off on one about the divas not taking wrestling seriously and getting jumped by Kelly Kelly, I can see Beth winning the Title. Â So I guess it would have been quite an average Raw but again the Punk, Cena and Triple H storyline has pulled it up a bit to an above average Raw, I wasn't looking overly forward to Summerslam but now with the added Triple H as special referee stipulation I must say I'm interested in seeing what way it's going to go now.
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted August 9, 2011 Paid Members Posted August 9, 2011 That last segment was truly spectacular. As Daz stated, Punk was positioned as number four in that segment but by the end had the crowd going mental for him. Thankfully, WWE had John Cena be the nice guy, instead of a shit rapper or CM Punk-like underdog, as they tend to do with these segments. Cena is easier to like when he actually keeps his character through such fierce promo battles that expose his flaws, at least when he plays the hero it helps that side of his image. Punk was excellent though. He not only answered all the criticism of Cena/Mr. H's but made the two of them out to be the real phoneys (his original point). I can't fucking wait for Punk to 'shoot' on Triple H, he's only skimmed the surface with material. What a star the lad is. Â The rest of Raw was decent enough. R-Truth again having a funny rant backstage.
The Miz Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 And the Undisputed WWE Champion leaving Summerslam is................... ALBERTO DEL RIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Â HHH as the Ref will screw over the man who's hand he raises after the Punk/Cena match.
xear Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 And the Undisputed WWE Champion leaving Summerslam is................... ALBERTO DEL RIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HHH as the Ref will screw over the man who's hand he raises after the Punk/Cena match.  That could build up to a Alberto Del Rio vs HHH vs John Cena vs Rey vs CM punk Scamble Match at NOC.
The Miz Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I wonder what Christians announcement will be on Smackdown. Retirement?
jimufctna24 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Loved the end segment  Punk was on top form as per usual, the crowd were nuts for him in the end segment, Cena was also very good. I love these serious and realsitic segments, it all makes me suspend by disbelief at times and become a right mark like I was when I was a kid, I love that.  I have to agree with Butch, Johnny Ace is a good smarmy heel. I can see him getting mega heat.  Looking forward to Summerslam
ChapManiA Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 And the Undisputed WWE Champion leaving Summerslam is................... ALBERTO DEL RIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HHH as the Ref will screw over the man who's hand he raises after the Punk/Cena match. I think it's nailed on to happen.
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted August 9, 2011 Paid Members Posted August 9, 2011 I hope they don't jump the shark with this storyline and have HHH fuck over Cena, with Punk winning and thus losing a shit load of momentum and popularity he's worked tirelessly, yet effortlessly, to attain. Seriously, haven't been this interested in wrestling since 1997. Â Jump the shark. I got that right didn't I?
GalaxyV.2 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Punk is so over atm its unbelievable. He's got that HBK cool ala 97 with DX. Where he's playing a sort of tweener role but is just so over.
King Pitcos Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Decent Raw, I thought. The contract signing was great, despite the whingers in this thread. Punk was on fire and Cena's mocking of the spastics was superb. Some of Rock's material (transvestite Wonder Woman?) is as shit as anything Cena ever comes up with, but his Facebook video was entertaining enough as well. Cena and Punk's respective singles matches were really good, as well. Â Morrison vs R-Truth was alright, but seemed to fall apart at the end. Miz vs Kofi was fine, but pointless. There's very little direction to any of the characters on Raw besides Cena, Punk, Morrison and Truth. SummerSlam's card is going to have to have some filler on it, and that should never be the case for the year's second biggest event.
Joey Joe Joe Jr Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 punk's funkhouser reference and trollface sign in the crowd= summer of punk 2011 rolls on another week
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted August 9, 2011 Paid Members Posted August 9, 2011 Have to say, I'm after watching it again, and Cena was magnificent in that segment!! Absolutely majestic. Fair play to all involved, quality stuff.
Baz Windham Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 For me there are now 5 general things that can happen at Summerslam, with variants in each area obviously, which makes for an exciting main event  - HHH calls it down the middle - HHH screws Punk without Cena turning - HHH screws Punk and Cena turns Heel - HHH screws Cena without Punk becoming corporate champ - HHH screws Cena and Punk becomes corporate champ.  Obviously some are more likely than others but personally I won't be ruling any one of them out.  I thought Punk and Cena were fantastic in the end segment, their segments go on ages but I still don't want them to end. It's not as if i'm clammering for them to brawl either as the back and forth on the mic is excellent. I loved the auible "OOOOOOOHHHH" from the crowd when Punk started talking about the released superstars.  The only other thing I can think of to say from Raw is that R-Truth gets better and better. Some may like that he's a bit of a comedy heel but he's absolutely hillarious so i'm all for it.
PepperPlunge Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 WWE are doing their first Raw and SmackDown's in Mexico this Autumn so I can see Triple H costing Punk the title to Cena and then Del Rio cashing in and being WWE champion for that tour. Or he could win it on Raw I suppose. Â Ratings haven't moved too much with the CM Punk stuff. His segments have done well but the overall rating hasn't been affected really. Money In The Bank is projected to have got more buys this year than last year but that's not really much of an indication as that sort of event is a special event like One Night Stand for example.
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted August 9, 2011 Paid Members Posted August 9, 2011 As good as this Cena/Punk/HHH stuff is I'd like the plot to thicken and grow after Summerslam. I want The Miz involved. He deserves to be, it'll make sense and he can more than handle it. Â Is the only way Cena & HHH react to insults to pull a grin and laugh like an idiot? Â And apart from the main event they did literally nothing to promote Summerslam, very odd. They didn't even announce any other matches! Madness. And yeah for the ratings to go up the shows as a whole need to improve not just the opening and ending segments. Apart from them there is a whole lot of nothing going on.
