Joey Hayes v Max Angelus signed!

Friday, 02 September 2011 10:44

Joey Hayes appears to be putting the controversy over Declan O'Connor to the back of his mind. It's business as usual for Joey on Saturday October 8 at XWA LastFight at the Prom as he takes on a talented newcomer in singles competition.

The popular XWA mainstay, who will soon enter his eighth year of competition in the Morecambe rings, has signed to face the young and hungry Max Angelus at LastFight in what is bound to be a crossroads matchup going into the new year of 2012.

Angelus (pictured above; photo courtesy of The House of Pain) is a product of 'The Heavyweight House of Pain' Stixx's training school in Nottingham. This will not be his first ever appearance for XWA. In May 2009 Angelus, then a fresh-faced rookie wrestling under the name of Max Nero, was crushed by the massive Bulk of The UK Pitbulls in one of his first ever matches in the ring at an XWA event in Sudbury, Suffolk. Angelus was embarrassed by the crushing loss to the veteran and in the two years since, has dedicated himself to making sure that should he ever receive another opportunity in the XWA, he would acquit himself in a much more impressive fashion.

You can see the results above. Angelus has worked on his physique, his athleticism and all aspects of his game. Because of this, he earned a spot on the FWA's Adrenaline roster and has wrestled on some of the promotion's high-profile events across the UK, and has also competed for another leading London-based promotion in IPW:UK. Angelus has improved beyond all recognition from the wide-eyed trainee of two years ago. The Nottingham Panther is now regarded as one of the top up-and-comers in the entire country and as such, has caught the eye of XWA officials.

Angelus will be out to make a name for himself in Morecambe at the expense of Joey Hayes, although he should be warned that many talented wrestlers - like CJ Banks, Marty Scurll, Axl Rage and JD Sassoon - have tried and failed to use Hayes as a stepping stone before. Joey has an exemplary record in singles competition since the collapse of The Manchester Massive tag team in February 2009, with only Nathan Cruz and his former partner Declan O'Connor able to beat him in an XWA ring since that date.

In fact, Joey has told this website that he intends to beat Angelus and then move on to bigger things. Tired of being a stepping stone, and with thoughts of reforming The Massive now looking to be well and truly in the past, Joey Hayes feels that he has been with the XWA for long enough to deserve something which in eight years, he has never ever received. That being, a shot at the XWA British Heavyweight Title.

But before he can move onto Goldrush 2012, where he may be able to earn that championship opportunity, Hayes must navigate his way past Max Angelus. It won't be an easy task.

Joey Hayes v Max Angelus has been added to the card for XWA LastFight at the Prom on Saturday, October 8 at The Carleton in Morecambe. Get your tickets now!

VIDEO EXCLUSIVE - The Authority still controls FutureShock Title

Sunday, 04 September 2011 08:55

The Authority does not just control the XWA British Heavyweight Title but has spread to infect its poison in other UK promotions too, such as FutureShock Wrestling in Stockport. Last Sunday night The Authority's handpicked representative in FutureShock, Dave Rayne, beat international superstar Colt Cabana to retain the FutureShock Title and afterwards, he and Greg 'The Truth' Lambert had some strong words for a potential future foe...

You can see the video, courtesy of FutureShock Wrestling, shot in the immediate aftermath of Rayne's title defence against former WWE superstar Cabana by clicking here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPcffJ-sWTA

These strong comments come after Rayne was chopped viciously across the chest by 'The Grappler' Jack Gallagher as he left the Stockport Guildhall following his victory.

Also in this video you can see the alluring femme fatale of FutureShock Becky James, who appears to have aligned herself with Rayne, Lambert and The Authority. As FutureShock Women's Champion this means her title is also now under Authority control.

VIDEO EXCLUSIVE - Stallion makes an announcement!

Monday, 05 September 2011 06:54

Our roaming XWA TV camera stumbled upon what appeared to be a private conversation between the outrageous Stallion and XWA co-owner Greg 'The Truth' Lambert - private that is, until the Gob on the Tyne decided to make its contents very public!

And now it seems that XWA LastFight at the Prom on Saturday October 8 will have a brand new ring announcer in the colourful Geordie Maverick himself! (below)

We wonder what Lambert's unwanted business partner in XWA, Sam Slam, will have to say about this development.

And what on earth is the significance of the boots...?

In the immediate aftermath of Axl Rage's loss of his XWA Best of the North West Cup to Jynkz, The Blackpool Blonds were in a foul mood. The latest match signed for XWA LastFight at the Prom 2011 is...

'Manchester Devil' Declan O'Connor v JD Sassoon

O'Connor has requested this match against Blackpool Blonds member Sassoon. The Mancunian also has guaranteed that after LastFight at the Prom, all the questions over why he missed XWA War on the Shore and his possible reunion with former Manchester Massive partner Joey Hayes - and who was responsible for Declan failing to meet his appointment with Joey - will be answered once and for all!

THE NORTH WEST IS THE BEST!

COME AND SEE THE NORTH WEST WEEKENDER!

The North West of England has long been a hotbed for professional wrestling and that great tradition continues to this day.

Just think at the names who have come out of the North West to grace rings in the UK and even worldwide over the years. Billy Riley. Giant Haystacks. Marc Rocco. Marty Jones. The British Bulldogs. Robbie Brookside. William Regal. Wade Barrett. The list goes on and on.

These days three wrestling promotions are carrying on in the footsteps of those who came before them to ensure the North West remains a mecca where travelling wrestling fans can enjoy their British grappling fix.

Grand Pro Wrestling of Wigan, XWA in Morecambe and FutureShock in Stockport have all been running for the best part of a decade, and in that time have all entertained their legions of fans with regular shows featuring a healthy dose of entertaining characters, gripping storylines and great wrestling.

Now the three promotions are working together. It's a refreshing alliance in these days where it's often dog eat dog as promoters battle for the same slice of the pie amidst a backdrop of sleaze and mistrust.

But GPW, XWA and Futureshock run regular 'Triple Headers' where the three companies promote on consecutive days - GPW on a Friday, XWA on a Saturday and FutureShock on a Sunday. This gives die-hard fans the chance to enjoy 72 hours of non-stop wrestling!

The next North West Weekender starts on Friday, October 7 when GPW presents Friday Night Thriller V at The Rose Club (formerly the Monaco Ballroom) in Hindley, Wigan, doors at 7pm. The main event sees North West stalwart 'Dangerous' Damon Leigh defend his GPW Heavyweight Title against the conniving leader of The Masterplan stable, Dirk Feelgood. Also expect high-flying action when El Ligero, Danny Hope, Noam Dar and Dylan Roberts square off in a four-way, the winner of which will take on rising North West star 'The Grappler' Jack Gallagher for the GPW British Title.

Then on Saturday, October 8, The Carleton club in Morecambe is the venue for XWA's traditional season-closer, LastFight at the Prom. The main event is a star-studded six man tag pitting The Ascension (Alex Shane), Colossus and 'Showstealer' Nathan Cruz against Sam Slam, Stixx and Johnny Phere. 'RockStar' Spud battles Axl Rage, Joey Hayes meets Max Angelus and the team of El Ligero and Jynkz duel with CJ Banks and Ricky J McKenzie in other matches on the show. Doors 7pm.

And the weekender closes on Sunday night, October 9, when FutureShock presents its sixth annual Trophy Tournament at the Masonic Guildhall in Stockport. The winner of the eight-man tournament will become the number one contender to the FutureShock Championship, currently held by Dave Rayne. Already announced for the first round of the tournament are CJ Banks, Zack 'Diamond' Gibson, Sean Daniels and the 400lb Cyanide. Doors 5.30pm.
