Paid Members Your Fight Site Posted July 29, 2011 Paid Members Posted July 29, 2011 And what ulterior motives bullshit would they be? The coming on here to depend Petey from a slagging off, only to trying and initiate a slagging off of the UK Kid. Asking why pro wrestling's called pro wrestling, then asking if the top-rope elbow drops were in the "real" pro wrestling, when any sane person would know that a top-rope elbow drop
aaron Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Shocking fact: pro wrestling used to be legit, and had the same relationship to amateur wrestling as pro boxing had to amateur boxing. It used the style of Lancastrian catch-as-catch-can, which had been popularised in the US by the (partly worked - make the wrestler look beatable, then beat the paying marks) carnivals. Amateur freestyle, greco-roman or collar-and-elbow wrestlers who wished to make a living from wrestling would take it up. Around 1900 (before I think) the two greatest American pro wrestlers of the day (Frank Gotch (no relation to Karl) was one) thought it would be a tremendous money spinner to fix a best of 3 series. It ended with a double cross, but the work set the trend. By 1920 pretty much everything was fixed.  The legit period of pro wrestling was very short.  Similar to what I believed. I thought they started working because the matches were long and dull with the same guy always winning... so they went for money?
Richie Freebird Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Is the Canadian Destroyer in the other 1%? Â I was more thinking single / double leg takedowns and variants of some of the submission holds we regularly see in pro wrestling, but yeah, I think I

Asking why pro wrestling's called pro wrestling, then asking if the top-rope elbow drops were in the "real" pro wrestling, when any sane person would know that a top-rope elbow drop—and most other modern-day professional wrestling moves—would be impossible to pull off and stupid to even try in a legitimate contest.  What's wrong with asking why pro wrestling is called pro wrestling?  Also, Magnum, I was browsing through the old UKFF threads and saw that backyard documentary and found it interesting and thought I'd comment.
Richie Freebird Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Is the Canadian Destroyer in the other 1%? Â Oh, and apparently the missile dropkick works if you're fighting Butterbean... Â
