The Cum Doctor
There's medication to help you come off the drink. It's not a case of winding down.
Paid Members DJ Kris Posted August 4, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted August 4, 2011 I wonder how many messed-up alcoholics in history have successfully quit booze by gradually winding down how much they drink each day. More than zero? I wonder how many manage to recover to the point where they can still drink. It must happen, surely?
Philo_Vance
My ex's dad used to be a genuine, all day every day, violent, dependent alcoholic and he's now recovered to the point he'll have a glass or two of wine with a meal but no more. So it does happen. Can't say I know anyone else who's managed it.
TildeGuy~!
Amy Winehouse had no illegal substances in her system when she died, although alcohol was present, a spokesperson for the late star has confirmed. The 27-year-old singer was found dead in her Camden home last month. No cause of death was found during an initial post-mortem.  The Metropolitan police said at the time that further test results would be known within a month, while an inquest was adjourned until October 26.  "Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death," a statement released this afternoon confirmed.  "Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."  It continued: "The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October."  London drugs fixer Tony Azzopardi claimed that he had supplied Winehouse with

That really isn't how it works. As much of the discussion in this thread is about. Alchoholism isn't simply a result of having too much and starting to feel like you need it - it's a mental illness, it doesn't go away - you can just stop triggering it

Glen Quagmire
In the voice of Joel Gertner, Well, Well, Well...  Amy Winehouse's death was the result of the singer drinking too much alcohol, a coroner has said. A verdict of misadventure was recorded into the 27-year-old's death after an inquest heard she was more than five times the drink-drive limit.  Winehouse was found dead at her home in Camden, north London, on 23 July.  St Pancras coroner Suzanne Greenway said the "unintended consequence" of Winehouse drinking so much alcohol was her "sudden and unexpected death".  Three empty vodka bottles, two large and one small, were found at her flat, St Pancras Coroners Court heard.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-15453517
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted October 27, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 27, 2011 Ooh, sensationalism. I'm hardly a big drinker, but I'll hit 5 times the drink-drive limit if I'm out on the piss for a friend's birthday.

Paid Members Surf Digby Posted October 27, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted October 27, 2011 Well, alcohol in general isn't advisable as it's technically poisonous. I'm just pointing out that her body's alcohol content wasn't shockingly massive, especially for someone with a history of binge drinking.
