Flatulent Dad
Just in reply to a few questions asked in this thread so far (& don't quote me):- Pool Explosion Death Match was held 25.9.94. From memory, the 1st time WWF showed Cactus Jack footage from Japan (which was from IWA K.O.T.D & "Duel of the Wilds") would have been in the build-up to the Foley. vs. Terry Funk streetfight match (1998?) Foley did have a match in FMW (or IWA) just after he'd signed with WWF. I think he wore part of his Mankind attire for that match - might have been a Cactus Jack shirt & the brown Mankind trunks - not sure, I'd need to check. Onita went into politics for a while, but there was some sort of sex scandal involving him & 1 or more women. He recently made a movie (he's appeared in a few) & I assume he's behind the new NEO FMW promotion, though I only know of 1 show & I don't think it was well attended. Edit - someone mentioned a women's no rope, barbed wire, barricade match. It may have been Mayumi Ozaki vs. Megumi Kudo  Here's a few iconic images I had lying around. & 2 more recent photo's - Onita & Kudo from a couple of years ago & a very recent one with RIE. pain-giver
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imMDpabALco...feature=related  Great match as the FMW forces of Hayabusa/Tanaka take on the IWA forces of Funk/Mr Pogo in a No Rope Electrified Barbed Wire Tag Death Match  Also includes the pre-match interviews, as long with the fantastic post-match goings on. All the other parts should be in the related videos section!
Snitsky's back acne
it was never a case of some moron being mutilated in a car park as in CZW. Â They use an empty field in Delaware to hold the tournaments these days bro, if you

Foley worked two FMW matches during his WWF stint.  As Cactus Jack, he wrestled on FMWs 7th Anniversary Show at Kawasaki Baseball Stadium on 5 May 1996 (he debuted in WWF in March 1996), where he lost to WING Kanemura in a Barbed Wire Barricade Spider Net Broken Glass Death Match.  .....and on 29 April 1997, well into his WWF run and only a week and a half after a loss to The Undertaker on ppv, he worked FMWs 8th Anniversary show (the main event of which was the aforementioned Kudo v Tsuchiya No-Rope Exploding Barbed Wire Double Hell Death Match), again as Cactus Jack, where he teamed with Terry Funk and 'The Gladiator' Mike Awesome in a loss to Atsushi Onita, Masato Tanaka and WING Kanemura. Reznor
Pretty sure The Great Sasuke also had Japanese footage in his WWF promo vids. Must've been around June '97.  In general terms, I think deathmatch wrestling seriously took a turn for the worse around 2000, which coincidentally was around the time CZW were somehow managing to muscle in on BJPW. Not saying it's them that caused it, but by that time Big Japan was the main garbage promotion and for some reason they were influenced by the mindless excess of CZW. Through the 90s you had the drama, innovation and sleaze of W*ng, IWA and FMW (which is not to say there wasn't a lot of absolute shite also) then the clever matches in BJPW featuring the likes of Yamakawa, Honma et al around 1999. After the new millenium, a lot of it tended to become little more than gratuitous gorefests as they tried to outdo the sickness of the last deathmatch, whilst losing track of what actually made them compelling in the first place. Dirty Eddie
Pretty sure The Great Sasuke also had Japanese footage in his WWF promo vids. Must've been around June '97.  It was really weird when the WWF started doing this, after years of ignoring every other company in the World (pretty much).  I remember being really chuffed to see Sabu footage when they were pimping The Patriot coming in and showed an AJPW tag match with Sabu involved.  I'm pretty sure I had already seen the Funk/Cactus Death Match Touney Finals through tape traders, but seeing clips of it on RAW was insane at the time.
