It's actually more odd than that. Having been let go by his previous club, they were still paying him his full wages last year. Now that's run out, he wanted Hearts to make up the difference. They'd have had to double his salary (at least) to keep him.

HMRC to reject Rangers CVA proposal at creditors meeting

By Alasdair Lamont and Chris McLaughlin BBC Scotland

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs will reject the company voluntary arrangement proposal made by Rangers' prospective owner Charles Green.

Green's consortium hopes to have its CVA approved by creditors when they meet at Ibrox on Thursday so that the club can exit administration.

But the club needs dominant creditors HMRC and Ticketus to vote in favour to avoid the assets being sold off.

The CVA terms suggest a maximum payout of nine pence for every pound owed.

BBC Scotland has learned that HMRC rejected the offer in two meetings with Rangers on Monday.

The CVA requires the approval of 75% or more in value of the creditors, and more than 50% in value of the members, voting on the resolution.

Rangers entered administration on 14 February and await the outcome of a First Tier Tax tribunal at the Court of Session in Edinburgh over unpaid taxes - the so-called "Big Tax Case".

Not entirely surprising given Charles Green was in the papers at the weekend boasting of raising

HMRC doesn't do walking away.

Seriously though, strip the assets. Sell every player, sell the stadium, sell Murray Park, sell sell sell. Put every penny back into HMRC and then let them start again. In the third division.

It's about time the HMRC said no. Not saying this because it's Rangers, I've said the same about Pompey. What football clubs have got away with in the past 20 years has been scandalous really. This is long overdue.

The problem in England is the ricockulous Football Creditors Rule. In Scotland there is no such rule so they can take Rangers to the cleaners if they so desire.

Also, why shouldn't people enjoy a wee bit of jelly and ice cream to celebrate the demise of the most poisonous club in Scotland?

If it liquidation is there anything to stop Celtic buying Ibrox? Could be a great signing if rented back.

Been following the BBC live updates and it's reckoned that Charles Green has a binding agreement to buy the assets for

1st - 4% + 13% = 17%

2nd - 4% + 11% = 15%

3rd - 4% + 5.5% = 9.5%

4th - 4% + 4.5% = 8.5%

5th - 4% + 4.0% = 8.0%

6th - 4% + 3.5% = 7.5%

7th - 4% + 3.0% = 7.0%

8th - 4% + 2.5% = 6.5%

9th - 4% + 2.0% = 6.0%

10th - 4% + 1.5% = 5.5%

11th - 4% + 1.0% = 5.0%

12th - 4% + 0.5% = 4.5%

That is how the money is split.

For Dundee Utd, St. Johnstone and ourselves, I don't think Rangers leaving would have much of an impact attendance wise. Dundee would bring up quite a few. 3 thousand to ourselves, full allocation to Tannadice, a few thousand to St. Johnstone.

I've been discussing this matter at length with Motherwell fans for months now, and the general consensus is that whilst the finances take a hit initially, interest in the game will increase over time, as the chances of a Motherwell, Hearts, United or Aberdeen challenging for 1st increase. 2nd place would be wide open, bringing bigger financial reward and a chance of European football (most likely via the Europa league, but still).

Perhaps more important than any of that is the loosening of the stranglehold that the Old Firm have over Scottish football at present. The SPL voting structure would have to change, which will hopefully see a more even playing field.
