mdh85
I much prefer to see WWE going back to feuds and having consistent rivalries rather than them forgetting about storylines as soon as the blowoff match has happened, as they often do, and having guys who were deadly enemies six months ago happily teaming together with no references made to their shared history. Â If the writing is good enough, there's no reason a rivalry between two great wrestlers like Mysterio and Del Rio should be exhausted after two or three pay per view matches. Â Yeah, that's bollocks. Cena and Orton should never team together by choice. No fear of that happening any time soon with Del Rio and Rey though is it? Be shocked if they aren't against each other in some form next monday night yet again. Â If the writing is good enough, Â Lulz. Â there's no reason a rivalry between two great wrestlers like Mysterio and Del Rio should be exhausted after two or three pay per view matches. Â How about fifteen to twenty times on telly or PPV in about six months?? It needs a rest.
textonly
Kofi Kingston is incredible on the mic. Seriously when they let him cut a serious promo he's really good. I'm specifically thinking his mini feud with Orton but there was another promo he did not long ago that was great, not sute who he was feuding with though. Â This is plainly not true. There's a difference between a guy who can occasionally convince when given a strong promo and a guy who can make your bog-standard storyline mover seem vaguely interesting. A main event guy needs to be someone who can do the latter. Maybe it's a lack of confidence, or maybe it's a lack of the requisite wit and poise, but either way Kofi has never really shown he can do that, and it's up to him to do so before he ever receives a push. And though I know that opportunity and what the writers produce for him are partly to blame, his failure to inject anything distinct, memorable or interesting into his everyday work is, by this point in his career, largely his own fault. King Pitcos
The thing that alarms me is that since the draft, intended to "shake things up," a lot of the matches featured on TV have been matches that we've already seen plenty of - Kofi vs Sheamus, Del Rio opposite the ring from Rey, Kofi opposing McIntyre. I hope this is temporary, because it's really worrying otherwise if everything not involving Kharma, Sin Cara or a heel R-Truth really has been done already. I noticed this as well. Raw seems like it's going to suffer from the lazy writing on Smackdown over the last year killing any desire for further matches between the same combos. You're spot on with your response to the "Rock and Triple H did it" criticism -- their different feuds were between evolving, hot characters. Kofi vs McIntyre/Ziggler/Swagger will be exactly the same as the million times those matches (I'm not sure they even count as feuds) were done on Smackdown, though if WWE is intent on re-doing them, hopefully there'll be a storyline this time. It's just a shame that they'd have to start a Kofi vs McIntyre storyline after we've already had what must be two or three hours of ring time against each other on TV in the last year, rather than before. Plus hopefully they'll have shorter matches on Raw. Â It's like that fella up there said: "If the writing's good enough." But that's basically fantasy. Del Rio vs Mysterio did have a story at least, but it barely covered the amount of times they wrestled on SmackDown, let alone still being exciting now. They faced each other far too many times, and have done too little since, to be re-feuding yet.
Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted May 6, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2011 To be fair, the Kofi - McIntyre Smackdown feud did have an angle that provided a cracking PPV match as well as some interesting television. Â Del Rio is an evolving character and the dynamic has changed. At this point in time I think its unjust to criticise any further interaction between him and Rey because right now, for the reasons I mentioned and Bertys current situation, it makes sense for him to pick on Rey again. It may be a real short thing to really establish Del Rio as the heel on Raw, attacking the most popular, regularly appearing WWE babyface not named John Cena. As a large percentage of Rey and Cenas fanbase are of the same ilk it might just be preparation for moving Del Rio onto a series with Cena. With Del Rio and Rey clashing again so soon, it isn't the case of lazy, uncreative Smackdown booking, they sold the motives through Del Rio being on commentary in the match and its a logical step considering Del Rios position. Â Besides...nobody watches Smackdown, right?
Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted May 6, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2011 I forgot to mention...seeing Vince tear up thanking The Rock was quite the sight. I think the only other time I've seen him get teary is talking about his Old Man and that's never been on live tv. It reminded me slightly of when Bret returned to TV in '97 and Vinces relief as he basically said he's staying with WWF and not going to WCW. But, considering how much has changed since then and its so often seen as nobody is bigger than WWE, anyone is replaceable these days, it was fascinating seeing Vince being so humble and human. Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted May 6, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2011 There are a few storys of Vince crying, the end of Warrior v Hogan (WM) and Bulldog v Bret Hart at Summer Slam being two examples. Â I think age is starting to catch up with him now and he can't help but blubber at the hint of sincere emotion.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted May 6, 2011 Author Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2011 The best example of Vince not being able to control himself is a story Kevin Kelly told on Dave Lagana's podcast which they both witnessed, where he wasnt feeling to clever at a TV taping years ago and he shit himself, went to the ring with shit in his shoes because it travelled down past his ankles, came back to the backstage area said "ha, ha, I just shit myself" and ran around the building with his shit covered trousers on a mop chasing Jerry Brisco around the arena trying to make him vomit. He is the man.
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted May 6, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2011 When I heard that my only wish was he was shouting "He's gonna... he's gonna puke!" while chasing poor old Jerry Brisco Benny Hill-style.
Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted May 6, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2011 Haha! Brilliant. I love Vince. He's such a fascinating character. Â Although, you seem to know all the obscure stories Ian, I'm sure someone accused you of making it all up the other day. I hope not. Â I find it hard to believe Gerry would have been running away though and not willingly let Vince smear his shit all over his ridiculous face. denzel_maggiore
Anyone else think the fans reaction of Cena was quite poor? Â I was expecting him to be booed out the building but the reactions were quite minimal with slight cheers and a few boos. Â It was almost like the WWE were using this show as a feeler to see how the fans reacted to Cena & Rock on the same show (in Miami) before Mania next year.
