Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 18, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted January 18, 2011 Not seen that one, but I've heard he's fine in that and the sequel. He's also comfortable doing comedy in the Meet The Parents films, even though I think they're a bag of shite.

Paid Members Chris B Posted January 18, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted January 18, 2011 That was horrendous. You'd have thought the last ten years would have broken it to De Niro that his talents do not lie in comedy. Â You're completely wrong. Â You know, you're right. 'Little Fockers' does stand up against 'Goodfellas', 'Godfather Part II', 'Casino', 'Taxi Driver', etc. Â So you've chosen to completely ignore Hi Mom!, Greetings, The King Of Comedy, We're No Angels, Mad Dog & Glory and, most importantly of all, Midnight Run? De Niro has plenty of talent for comedy, anyone can see that. Â I liked The King of Comedy and Midnight Run, but I don't see him as playing comedic roles in either of them. I'm not saying he's never funny, either. When I say about his talents not lying in comedy, what I mean more is that I find him to be a far stronger straight actor than a comedic one. He's got such a talent for acting, and he has less talent for comedy. He's an exceptional actor - he's not an exceptional comedian. His best comedy stuff, for me, comes when he's being the straight guy. Â With all the films you mentioned, I find them good but forgettable - with the exception again of The King of Comedy, but again, I don't really find that to be a funny film. Â My main point, overall, was that his acceptance speech was awkward and shit. For all these people talking about awkward reactions to Ricky Gervais, it's worth watching De Niro's rather painful speech and the reactions to that. Paid Members MoChatra Posted January 18, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted January 18, 2011 I love most of the stuff that Gervais does and this was no exception. He took Hollywood's enormous ego and kicked it around for all to see. Lovely. Â +1. Gervais is the man. People are too uptight. Â Word.
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted January 18, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted January 18, 2011 Are you guys being sarcastic? He's not very funny. His stand-up is shit, for sure. I didn't watch much Extra's. The Office was meh. And his annoying laugh on episodes of An Idiot Abroad makes me want to strangle him to death. Â He can be pretty funny, he's just a bit of a dickhead is all. Which is why he's so unlikeable in Idiot Abroad - because he's playing himself. Although I've gotta say that now I've realised he's a dick it has retrospectively tainted work of his that I used to enjoy more.
