Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 18, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted January 18, 2011 That was horrendous. You'd have thought the last ten years would have broken it to De Niro that his talents do not lie in comedy. Â You're completely wrong.
Paid Members Rob Lowe Posted January 18, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted January 18, 2011 What's much more important is... what the hell happened to Tim Allen?!? How lucky is Allen that Home Improvement was massive in 95 and lead him to Toy Story? Fifteen years later he's still making Toy Story money and doing fuck all else. He doesnt have a particularly great voice, he should thank HI and the year 1995 every morning.  I liked that. Had this been at a British awards show (say the BAFTAs) they would be laughing, cheering, and applauding at gags about Charlie Harp... I mean Sheen etc. But for some reason, the Americans don't like that. "He's insulting one of us!" "Hey, he took our jobs!" (South Park-style) A lot of articles imply this, but its untrue and hype. The scientology gag got some gasps but overall everyone laughed, cheered and seemingly had fun. Gervais wasnt beaten up outside afterwards for telling hollywood the 'truth'!  Did anyone notice BBC completely no-selling Gervais on the news? Maybe they did more later, but lunchtime yesterday had a few seconds clip of him talking and then a few minutes on the awards. Normally a british person blowing their nose in America gets hyped up, but they were quiet with Gervais.
GalaxyV.2
People were laughing at him. Even Johnny Depp smiled at the Tourist bribe gag. The papers always over react, they did exactly the same last year. He'll host it next year, think about it, everyone has been talking about it. Â Btw, why has Christian Bale been ignored by the British media? Â And Anne Hathaway is awful in every way

GalaxyV.2
Perhaps, but knowing his sense of humour it was probably uncomfortable due to him knowing it was shit

The Guvnor
I bet the people who took offence weren't nearly as bothered as I was after watching the Science DVD. It was painfully bad. Weak observations, poorly performed. And I'm a Gervais fan.
Smegma Cake
I thought the speech was brilliant. Not many people would have the balls to do those kinds of jokes in front of an audience like that, at an event like that. True, its more suited to the "COMEDY AWARDZ!" but I loved it. Who else do you see playing De Niro's character in the Meet The Parents trilogy the way he does? Â Actors can partake in a variety of roles. Some suck at it (like Jim Carrey) but De Niro cracks me up in Meet The Parents and its sequels, as much as I buy into the characters he plays in Taxi Driver et al. I liked him in that, but it was 10/11 years ago now. Considering he's a multi millionaire and been famous for two decades, his resume is a bit weak. Â Im sure there are loads of people worse. I just think it must have stung the Toy Story people to give Tim Allen a huge fee for the third film when his star has fallen so far. But they have to do it, because he was in the previous films in the nineties.

He rejected Wales first before y'all rejected him.  Next you'll be telling us 'it was a mutual break-up'..  I still can't get over him still not knowing it was Suo Gan in Empire of the Sun.  And anyway, a true Welshman wouldn't talk to his mam like he does in such an unpleasant manner. That's the trait of the scum English.

De Niro has plenty of talent for comedy, anyone can see that.
