Dolph Ziggler

You have to believe that when they brought him back to the roster as Dolph Ziggler that they never dreamed he would end up in the main event scene, otherwise they wouldn't have given him such a comedy jobber name. It's a shame, because it really is a poor name for a guy who could be World Champion. I can't even think of any way to tweak it to make it sound more credible, but dropping it altogether I think would be equally damaging to Dolph's momentum now.

I think he's got all the tools, including one of the best 'looks' in the business, but his progress is now being hampered by repetitive SmackDown feuds (endless matches with Kofi) and his association with Vickie. She does do a fantastic job of drawing heat, but as noted by others- she overshadows Dolph and does far too much talking for him. He's never going to be taken seriously as a main eventer whilst this is the case.

When she was doing the same routine with Edge it was different, because he was already established as a main event heel and it was clear that his motivation for being with Vickie was to take advantage of her position of power for his own gains. With Ziggler, it doesn't come across like that. He just comes across as a bit of a soft twat with bad taste in women. You would expect the guy with the porno name to pull himself one of the porn actress look-a-like divas. I'm glad they haven't followed up the Kaitlyn angle though, because that wouldn't have suited him as a heel.

Also, I agree on the Billy Gunn comparison- he reminds me a lot of him too. It's largely because of the similar look and the fact that Dolph uses the Fame-Asser from time to time. I actually think Dolph is a more complete package, but I reckon that if he was around ten years ago he would have never made it to the main event scene. Just as if 1999-2000 Billy Gunn was around now, he probably would end up getting a short title reign at some point. I guess that's the difference between the state of the company now and ten years ago.

Why would you change his name? Or his hair? Both great assets. Both help him stand out from the crowd.

Anyway, good question, Seven. I don't think he should be World Champion anytime soon simply because I rate him so highly. He's really good in the ring, probably the best of his generation in WWE. He needs to develop a main event attitude and a main event character before he gets pushed on. Otherwise, I fear he'll end up in the Swagger position of having one meaningless title run and having the booking squad lose interest in him when they realise he's got nowhere to go. That said, he's much better than Swagger.

Ziggler is awesome. I don't think he should win the World Title yet though, in the same way I don't think Del Rio should win it yet. I understand things have changed alot over the years, but what happened to having a long term Mid Carder, reliable and entertaining. Mr Perfect, Roddy Piper, Scott Hall, life long quality Mid Carders. Shawn Michaels broke the mould in some respects. He was an awesome Mid Carder for a long time before winning the Title at (I think) WrestleMania 14.

WWE have Main Eventers coming out of there ears, sure some are injured at the moment, and others are getting boring, that would be the only argument I woul;d agree with tohot shot new ones, but they have dne that twice with Miz and Sheamus.

He won his title at WM12!

As for ziggler, i love him at the moment some really great performances and i was actual shocked he won the IC title, as i never thought they would have the name "Dolph ziggler" in the record books. Although now i see the stupid name is part of the gimmick also, and i would love for him to win it, although i wouldnt mid this beign dragged out abit, or maybe even have him win MITB after 2 failed attempts at the belt (say rumble and elimination chamber), then come down at mania and take the title.

Bar that i think he's improved 100% since he first showed up, or more likely just had the chance to show of the skills he allready had.

In regards to long term mid carders, they are good, but now we look back and say "why didnt Piper/Hall ever win the world title?", so i would love ziggles to take the belt! And yes he does need vicky, as she is the current "Heat" machine in wwe right now.

In ring, Ziggler's shown to be as good as a worker as WWE can create in this day and age. Probably the most consistent guy on his brand.

Main event though>? Fuck it, The Miz is the current champion. They are all main event material.

I wish I'd seen a number of Ziggler promos that showcase his range on a microphone to be able to construct an informed opinion as to his potential as a show-carrier... when they arrive, I'll be able to form that opinion.

Right now, he's a great mechanic with a heat machine as a 'manager'. He does have a shit look though and doesn't have any 'hook' apart from being a competent wrestler.

I don't think his name is an issue, it's considerably less silly than The Miz which I think always makes him sound like he should have a gimmick as a conjurer or something. I like him, and I didn't used to - he's improved enormously in the ring and had some great matches, but I do think his character could do with one or two tweaks.

In ring, he's probably the hardest worker in the WWE right now. For me, he consistantly has the best TV matches week in, week out. His matches with Cena on RAW and Smackdown a few weeks back were marvelous and I hear his PPV match with Mysteryo was something to behold. He's at the right place now (IC Champion, upper mid card) and harks back to the old days when the best worker held the IC belt. There's no rush while he works on his mic work and showmanship but I see him getting to the top eventually. Awesome physique too.

He's not going to win the title at the royal rumble, but I do see him as a future world champion. He has a great look and great levels of intensity, will easily be a big player. I call him to win MITB at Wrestlemania :)

Bump.

I gave it time, I did, I tried to be positive, but the Dolph push has just been an excuse to give Vickie more screen time. The last month's done him no favours at all, he is Eric Escobar v2, sure, he's infinitely more talented, but character-wise, and in importance to WWE creative-wise he's second to Vickie, and it's becoming more obvious after every week. He looked like a joke on the last Smackdown, and I'm sure he will on tomorrows Raw when he stands there looking like a plonker, while Vickie gets 10 minutes to cut the exact same promo with the exact same delivery she's been doing since 2006.

During what was supposed to be (kayfabe) the "biggest match of Dolphs career" at the Royal Rumble, the camera cut away to Vicki over SIXTY FUCKING TIMES!, SIXTY!. Can anyone defend that?, really?. When Dolph's caught in a submission, and he's teasing that he's going to tap out, do we really need to cut away to a shot of Vickies arse?, what the fuck is that supposed to do for the match?, are the viewers at home supposed to think "there's that Vickie, AGAIN!, I've forgot that she's his girlfriend since the last time we cut away to her 5 seconds ago, now I really want Dolph to tap out, grrrr". How is that doing Mr Ziggles any good?. I'm probably just being "anti-smark" again though, the match clearly wouldn't have worked without the shots of Vickie standing still on the outside.

I'm done even trying to watch his matches from now on, which is a bloody shame as he has talent, and according to live reports he puts on great matches all the time.... Pity we never get to see them on tv, we just get to see Vickies reactions to watching them.

You're right. Even on this past Friday's SD, it was all about that fat bitch than Nemeth.

Are you the gimp that keeps making references to "Mizanin?"

The thing that currently bugs me about Dolph is that if the WWE have faith in him as a future star, it's horrifically derisory for him to be referred to as "Turd Ferguson" on NXT. Actually it's derisory that I have to listen to that.

I wondered if this was the beginning of the process of changing his name. Then again, it's been suggested that I think too much.

I can't get into Dolph, can't accept him as a World Title contender. The Billy Gunn comparisons are spot on in my opinion.

Though I do like that think he does of brushing his hair back on the ramp, and flicking the sweat off. Don't know why, though.
