Gladstone, is your list meant to be underrated films that you like? I dont see how a lot of your list is deemed underrated. Predator?

I did have write-ups for them all which probably explained my choices. I think my reasoning behind Predator was that it is mostly seen as an action romp with a few one-liners and crap acting whilst I reasoned that it was brilliantly paced for what it was and that the ending was nice and unusual.

I like Super Mario Brothers but I think I am the only one!

You aren't.

I love some films, mostly 80s ones, that my mates generally shit on and are far from critically acclaimed. Red Sonja, BMX Bandits and Mannequin to name but three.

Not sure if it's underrated but Cast Away with Tom Hanks is great fun (it has Tom Hanks for a start).

Jingle All The Way & Suburban Commando are great family fun too. I fucking loved Masters of the Universe as a kid too, my Gran had it on VHS and I watched it every time I stayed over.

I have never seen Chungking Express but I have seen Fallen Angels by Wong Kar Wai. Excellent film, had to do it for an exam but I still remember it quite vividly cause of the beautiful neon pastels.

I was going to say Hudson Hawk too. I love that film despite being very silly plot and over the top performances by everyone.

I'll say Monsieur Verdoux, Paleface (childhood fav) and my uni fav, BASEketball.

Series 7: The Contenders.

Normally found in Poundland on video rather than DVD. The general basis of the movie is 5 people randomly chosen out of everyone in the country, over the age of 18, to be in a reality show, along with the previous series' winner (win 3 times and you get to leave the show outright). The only way to win is to kill all the competition.

It's just completely fucked up as a premise, but somehow works.

From what I remember of seeing Series 7: The Contenders I really enjoyed it, I have kept half an eye out for it cheap on DVD but have never come across it.

I strongly advise holding out for the DVD version rather than the video if you can. The video lacks the alternate ending for it unfortunately. I don't get why they couldn't have just stuck it after the credits really.

After next pay day I'll have a mooch about online for the cheapest price. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Big fan of Big Trouble In Little China.

Theres a lot of people on here that rightly love that film. I'm a huge John Carpenter fan and admit the differnce between his hits and misses is amazing but I think some of his stuff is very underated. Prince of Darkness is a cool little film as is In the Mouth Of Madness and Starman is just fantastic (its 30 years old and Jeff Bridges was owning the screen back then, he should have a cupboard full of oscars by now)

Also everything Kurt Russell has ever done because hes fucking amazing. Breakdown should have been a bigger hit than it was, I think it was J.T Walsh's last film and that guy never gave a bad performance.

Jackie Brown: Barely ever mentioned when people talk about QTs work but its a great film and working from the Elmore Leonard novel seems to have given him more focus than some of his other films. Plus great performances from Pam Grier (who never really got the come back people said she would from it) and Robert Forster

One of my favourite films that gets little fanfare is 'The Girl Next Door' starring Elisha Cuthbert & Emile Hirsch.

The-Girl-Next-Door-Uncovered-2004-Front-Cover-38162.jpg

It's easy to see why it was overlooked. The synopsis being that a porn star moves in next door to a high school senior who subsequently falls in love with her.It was sort of advertised as a sex type teen comedy in the vein of American Pie. Whilst, ultimately it does fall in that vein, but it has alot more layers to it. The trailer doesnt do it justice either. Director Luke Greenfield does a fantastic job with the material that he has and pulls it off with the help of a stunning soundtrack that includes The Who, Queen with Bowie, Filter, The Verve, Donovan etc. Strangely it's a film that is actually quite inspiring and just makes you want to seize the day/moment every time you watch it.
