cobra_gordo
That's some wonderful stuff right there. That clothesline is a thing of beauty, with Sid making it look like he's going to take his head off and Scott selling it brilliantly. Â Watching this made me have to watch this from the first ever Raw where the Steiners squash the Executioners. I always chuck this match on if I need to raise a smile because they just kick the shit out of them. Basically everything from Rick's clotheline at 1.55 makes them look hard as fuck, Scott's belly to belly at 2.54 looks like the other dude might have felt that for a couple of days after. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted December 30, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 30, 2011 A few things:- Â 1) FUCK OFF ROB BARTLETT. What a fucking turd. Moderators PowerButchi Posted December 30, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 30, 2011 Yeah, I used to really dig the Steiners music. It was used for Alex "The Pug" Porteau in 1996 as well. But he was shit.

Paid Members air_raid Posted December 31, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2011 I absolutely loved those early Steiners squashes on WWF telly, they just instantly seemed kings of KILLING JOBBERS DEAD.  In fairness though, in the nasty-looking-finisher stakes, at the time I genuinely thought they were trumped by these two homosexual . I'd take all the flying bulldogs in the world before that sucker. Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted December 31, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2011 I'd have loved if Scotty got the big Luger push in '93. There's no basis behind it happening besides me thinking he'd fit the bill just as well (actually better) than Luger did and i've thought it for a while. The bodyslam challenge would be decent enough reason for him to suddenly go to singles and challenge Yoko for the title out of the blue. He had the right look and build and credentials to be a believable dude to slam the big bastard and he'd easily fit into the role of all-american hero. Â It could have then lead to a mighty WrestleMania X all babyface main event of Bret vs Steiner which would have been super double awesome. Paid Members air_raid Posted December 31, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2011 I re-watched Great American Bash 1992 today, and what a charming watch it's been. There is just so much to love about this show.  The intro is fantastically weird with Schiavone and Magnum TA welcoming you to the broadcast, which most people would assume makes them your announce team? No, let's shoot it to JR and Ventura at ringside. For me, Jim and Jesse were a great, underrated commentary duo with a wealth of knowledge and just enough colour from The Body, and a refreshing lack of hyperbole and ranting from JR. I watched WrestleMania XX last night and comparing Ross' contribution to each of these tapes, is like night and day. Weirdly enough we also get a shot during the World title match of Schiavone watching the match with Ron Simmons, although we don't get to hear what they're saying. DAMN.  The tournament for the NWA Tag Team title is chock full of quality, nonsensically set up as it is with one of the Quarter Finals having already happened giving Doc & Bam Bam an unfair advantage over the rest of the field. The field in question is nothing short of staggering - Flyin' Brian & Jushin Liger, the Miracle Violence Connection, the Freebirds, Hiro Hase and Fat Elvis. Best of all comes a match which absolutely epitomises WCW 1992 at it's absolute finest - Rick Rude & Stunning Steve (with Maddy in their corner) versus Dustin Rhodes and big Barry Windham. What more can you ask for? I won't spoil the final for you if you haven't seen this PPV - and you should see this PPV - but it's excellent.  Some of the work in the matches really made me sit up and think "I love that." At one point Steamer executes an armdrag and holds on for an armbar on Williams, and Doc bucks angrily around, and it really makes it look like Steamboat is having to struggle and work hard to maintain his grip on the armbar. That attention to detail is superb. It made me think "who would think to put a nuance into an armdrag/armbar these days?" Then I realized, its not a spot you see a great deal of anymore. In the same sequence Steamboat transitions into a hammerlock, and visibly can be seen to be attempting a chicken-wing, which Doc blocks. At times I think chinlock/headlock is the only "basic" hold anyone can be bothered with. Incidentally if you're a fan of MOVEZ!1, this show features such treats as moonsault presses, Northern Lights suplexes and German suplexes, making the WWF look reasonably pedestrian in comparison.  Oh, and the World title match is Sting vs Vader, which to be honest given all the talent at their disposal, I'd have had as the main event of every card they put on in 1992 that didn't have a War Games. Some marriages just work, and for me the firery babyface comebacks of "The Stinger" against the ruthless intimidation and brutal power moves of big Leon is one of my favourites from the era. This match is no exception, the action is great and the finish strong.  If you can track this PPV down or it's sat gathering dust, watch it.  matches :  NWA TAG TEAM TITLE QUARTER FINALS (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy already advanced to semis) Ricky Steamboat & Nikita Koloff VS Brian Pillman & Jushin Liger Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham VS Rick Rude & Steve Austin The Freebirds VS Hiroshi Hase & Shinya Hashimoto (semis & final)  WCW WORLD TITLE Sting VS Vader  That's your lot. Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 12, 2012 Moderators Share Posted March 12, 2012 So yeah, now Cleets refreshed my memory about our idea to watch some WCW B/C/D shows I thought I'd bring this youtube account to your attention. Â http://www.youtube.com/user/WCWMainEvent1991 Â He's got an absolute shitload from the 90s. Saturday Nights, Worldwides, Main Events, Pro and Prime. Gladders, Cleets, anyone, what programme should we start with? I don't think any of us have reviewed a Main Event yet, have we?
Paid Members CleetusVanDamme Posted March 12, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 12, 2012 Holy shit, that channel's great! I'm going to have a look around to check dates and shit, but we should start with some Worldwides from 97. Mainly so I can try and spot myself in the audience! I've been wanting to see these for fucking aaaaages.
