Government Cuts Thread

Union leaders are threatening to tackle the government head-on with a massive campaign of co-ordinated strikes and civil disobedience to oppose looming cuts in public spending.

In incendiary comments ahead of the TUC's annual conference, one union leader warned of "a campaign of resistance the like of which we have not seen in this country for decades".

Plans could include sit-down protests on roads, mass industrial action and high-profile stunts at key public buildings.

The warnings came as the government tried to play down reports it planned to slash

All I can say is, it's about fucking time.

Por quoi?

Why are militant unions with lass than half the membership of their heydays and that skint that they are unable to pay 'strike wages' crippling the country and calling for militancy a good thing?

If they fail in trying to stop these cuts we'll wait & see what you're saying in a few years once the NHS starts going downhill, shall we?

Then you may agree that it was a "good thing" after all.

Profligate spending from the failure of the past government has crippled the economy, these parasites at the top of the unions aren't about the people or the improvement of the country, they're money grabbing plebeians of the highest order. Something has to be done about the ridiculous deficit, and something will be done, I sincerely hope the government are not blackmailed by these people who should know better. The country has gone far beyond a sustainable means, Labours governing policies and overspending are why we are here.

And what would you like to see done to reduce the deficit?

All services are going to have to absorb considerable cuts, much like the governments plan, but I feel it hasn't thoroughly gone into real drains on public purse strings. Management levels across all public services [Civil service, police, NHS etc] are grossly overstaffed, and eat up a vast amount of resources, resources better purposed on the frontline, a considerable downsizing in every public sector department is a start, but some a lot more than others.

Frontline services are going to be hit, and a lot of jobs are going to have to go. You don't have to like it, it is just how it is going to have to be for this country to recover from Labours complete failure. Obviously this ties in with more stringent controls and levies on the banks, ensuring they pay back the money we spent keeping a lot of them afloat. Better appropriation and management of money is a must, the police piss away millions and millions ever year that needs reeling in, as does the NHS, The list goes on.

Bollocks.

First of all, our debt stands at around 50% of GDP, lower than the likes of Japan, the United States, Germany & France.

What needs to be done is the exact opposite. We need to see jobs created, not done away with.

Surely the idea should be to boost the economy, not damage it?

Plus, there is something like

Dude, Iam already expecting my benefits to be cut come may when Iam up for re evaluation

The 13 week thing is to shit here already and never got anywhere that low. Already had to wait up to 5 months for results before pressuring my MP to get that changed among other things

So what 'good thing' are we looking at and why is it about time again?
