twelve_grand Posted January 25, 2010 Share Posted January 25, 2010 My mates who I'm going with are a bit gutted though, because he's apparently doing the same show they already saw him do on his last tour, with the reason being "because I didn't go to Liverpool on my last tour" which seems like a bit of a cop-out  He always tours one show over two years with the second year going to different towns. Then its on to developing a new tour (or has done for the last 7 or so years). Given how well put together the shows are you can understand that he wants to get maximum value out of it and there is a clamour for him to visit as much of the country as possible.  I love the stage shows - it's magic done incredibly well. The Events were slightly odd - they built too much expectation and when it became apparent it was going to be a mixed bag of not related but strong material and false explanations I was a bit put off the concept. The last casino show was genius though - the whole absurdity was fabulous coupled with the Hitchcock moment at the end (with the cheque). Hilarious and highly entertaining for long time fans. Â i'd seen some of Derren's recent stuff, the events things, but this afternoon i just popped a DVD in of Tricks of The Mind (1st series), i watched 3 episodes back to back before switching off...i just find the whole show ridiculous. I understand Derren is quite clearly great at what he does, but most of the tricks in these shows are just so far fetched it just makes me think 'fuck off, that's fake'...i'm a magic fan and love illusions and all that stuff, and i think the tricks on the show are kinda feasible, i just don't think Derren is performing them. Like making the orchestra conduct a certain piece of music, making someone believe he was invisible, predicting how many chess pieces would be left at the end of 9 chess games. The only thing that did freak me out a while back was watching one of the shows where at the end, he managed to make members of the audience forgot what they'd seen (ie basically everything they had just seen) That I found a little disturbing but in a cool way. Â I love his work, been to see him live twice and have several DVDs but this book I dont get, maybe its too clever for me but I have read the first 2 chapters and haven't a clue what Ive read!
