TheBigBoot Posted April 12, 2011 Share Posted April 12, 2011 I don't think Heenan put himself over too much but I certainly can see why some would think his announcing took away from the seriousness of their matches. I'm not sure that is the same thing, really. Â When he first joined WCW there was talk that he wouldn't 'fit' the product because it was too Southern and wrestling orientated and that Heenan's character wouldn't work as well in that environment because even though there were still some comedy characters for him to mock there weren't as many colourful gimmicks. That wasn't just Foley saying it either it was something wrestling writers were speculating about at the time. Less than half a year later Hogan and friends turned up and Heenan was right at home taking the mickey out of the goofy cartoon characters.
