  1. One of my favourite moments is Kurt Angle's debut and Don is solo on commentary.  He says something like 'and his debut arrives' and there is just something about the way he says it that is absolute magic and really adds to the moment.

I'm surprised Tenay and West have never been added to the Impact Hall of Fame.  It should not be underestimated how much they made TNA enjoyable.

    RIP

It's a blessing in that they can move on from it.

Regardless of the backstage stuff we can write off CM Punk as the expensive injury prone veteran free agent that doesn't work out. Can't all be Sting :)

They can absolutely stack the card with major singles matches for Grand Slam to get the stink off this mess.

Very much so.  CM Punk reminds me of Hulk Hogan in 2002/3.  Massive return, massive reactions then starts disappearing due to not being happy, injuries and falling out with the owner.

There's a huge roster, but there are only 3 or 4 movesets between them, so really it's like you get a few different characters and the other 60-odd are all just re-skins. Which makes the whole thing get very repetitive very quickly. I got it for free and still felt let down by it.

Thanks, based on this I think I will give it a miss. Sounds similar to the TNA game which I actually think this game uses its engine.

  4. It's crazy as 2009 sound like it was not that long ago but it is actually now 12 years ago!

When you think of it, smartphones were only just coming out so the audience were not as distracted and you wouldn't have all the shit social media references etc, reality era etc. Just different times and a much scaled back output.

  5. Has anybody bought WWE Battlegrounds and is it any good? I see it is on sale both physically and digitally but I'm unsure of purchasing as it looks like the type of game that could get repetitive and old fast.

  6. I gave up after the first segment.

The combination of so many bright lights, mosaic of fans and the camera angles cutting every second just made me feel terrible and I needed to look away.

If they reduced the camera cuts, replaced the fans with the trainees and kept the screens behind the ring to a logo instead of the mosaic of streams, I actually think that would be much better as the overall structure etc looked good.

  7. I choked on a raisin when I was about four and spewed everywhere. I've never been able to touch one since due to it. Saying that I've never why understood why anybody would enjoy eating something like that which has had the life dried out of it.

I also never used to like prawns as I thought they looked like small fingers but I seem have to have gotten over that very weird one.

Oh and @Frankie Crisp that story had me roaring with laughter. The thought of a strong peach vodka is bad enough without adding in your mate's arse explosion!

I don’t know what the current exchange rate is, but for a $125, you can have a 2 minute virtual meet and greet with such great, likeable stars like Seth Rollins.

A wrestling fan on webcam with Bayley though... nothing’s going to go wrong there.

To be fair, given some of those pictures of fans with the women wrestlers previously posted here, she will probably feel safer than ever.

  9. The last time we saw HBK on TV a few months back, my wife was absolutely horrified.  Not by his cross eyes (which I had absolutely no idea until HBK that this could happen with age) but by his teeth.  She pointed out how disgusting they were.  Even after JBL stole his money, surely old Shawn could afford a few veneers...

  10. Like some others I've been around for quite some time but have mainly been someone who reads and occasionally posts (it shocked me when I checked my profile there and realised it had been 13 years since I joined).

What keeps me coming back every day is that I genuinely enjoy reading all the posts, people's views, debate, humour and of course the support between members in topics such as the mental health thread.

I echo that I don't see cliques. What you do have is regular posters who have been here for years, contribute the most and are also confident to put out their views or challenge others. These are fundamental to a forum but can understandably be challenging to those who don't post much or don't like healthy confrontation.

It is also possible to take things to heart when reading text without the tone of a voice behind it.

All you need to do is look at comments on tweets, YouTube or other social media and that will show you the absolute worst of bullying and I definitely don't see anything like that on here. Nobody is perfect and nobody gets things right 100% of the time but I've always thought this is a decent place, where if issues arise they are resolved. It has to be a decent place for me to spend a good chunk of my day reading it as I've grown from a young 20 year old to now a 33 year old dad (not quite in the 35 year old plus demographic mentioned earlier).

Maybe 2020 has finally broken my brain but I'm currently watching the most recent episode and.......I'm enjoying it.

Yes even the Wrestle House nonsense.

I'm the same. Not watched Impact in years other than the hyped 2018 Slammiversery. Must say I've quite enjoyed the past two weeks of Impact I've seen and I much prefer it to WWE's current output, which I can't seem to get through a full episode without turning off.

The lack of crowd hasn't been that noticeable either which surprised me.

  12. This crossed my mind the other day and is pretty relevant seeing as there have been a few comments on the missing parts of the roster due to Coronavirus restrictions. I'm trying to think who hasn't been about. Most of the roster have reappeared such as The Young Bucks and Lucha Bros (although have the Lucha Bros gone again?). The only one I could really think of was Pac but there must be more.

I quite liked the TNA game on the main consoles. Was a good first attempt at a wrestling game, had a very fun engine, was fast and easy to pick up and play. It looked and animated fantastically for the time. The crap pinning system and severe lack of moves and match types hurt it. The base was there. If it got a sequel it'd probably have been easily my favourite wrestling game since the Day of Reckonings.

The try-hard epic intro that makes it seem like it's going to cure cancer is amazing, too.

The pin system on the consoles is brutal. Almost impossible to kick out by wiggling the analogue stick.

The AI in the story mode is also ridiculous. So so hard as they kick out and reverse everything along with getting second winds.

It is great for quick exhibition matches though and had some good moments. That and Don West on commentary. Definitely a great base for a game and could have had a great sequel.

Cheers, I might get it for the Six Sides of Brexit ring canvas alone.

Unfortunately no playable Nigel Farage is contained on the cart.

I'm going to dig out my copy tonight now and take a nostalgia trip.

  15. I'm actually in possession of a copy. Bought it from a GameStop in Orlando in 2010.

It definitely uses the same engine as the PS3/Xbox game with obviously much scaled back graphics. The roster was updated due to the few years that had passed since the original release although I'm sure some of them were just reskins of other characters.  It is ok for what it is and the platform it is on at the time (although I'm not sure it will have aged well so not sure how passible it would be now).

I would say it is worth buying for its uniqueness if it is fairly cheap but wouldn't pay a massive amount for it. A psp version was also released at the same time however it is closer to the PS3 version and doesn't contain Hogan etc.

    Edit: gameplay footage on YouTube

  16. In Scotland as you are aware we are a bit behind with rules for pubs, restaurants and going in people's houses only recently relaxed.

Needless to say I've been horrified at social media this weekend. So many people out with friends all huddled around touching each other for photos. I've even seen one video of beer pong amongst friends in somebody's house, the most hygienic game ever. Oh and a few folk abroad with one even stopping off at a Greek tattoo parlour.

It's like everybody thinks it is over.

    We are absolutely fucked.

In the words of Game of Thrones....Winter is coming....

  17. I foolishly keep paying them. I'm exactly as described. Somebody who will keep watching now and again as I've dedicated 20 years to it. I'm part of the problem.

I think those who keep down just hope that it will return at some point to decent TV. The stuff that got you interested in the first place which is really great characters and a reason you must tune in.

Although the match quality is too floppy floppy indie, I do think AEW present a more enjoyable easy to watch show that does remind me of why I liked wrestling in the first place. And I would love WWE to simplify and get back to what I enjoy. I don't want to be bashing them, just give me so decent wrestling that I'm not mortified at the thought of somebody catching me watching.

  18. This show may have to be one of the lowest moments they've had.

I'd seen no build up so was unaware and absolutely gobsmacked at the fact one match was actually focused on the only way to win was to gauge somebody's eye out. Utterly offensive and highly irresponsible considering the younger viewing audience they now target. Apparently they were going to have actual CGI of an eyeball popping out but Vince didn't like the look of it and sacked it off.

    Ziggler in the title match.

Swamp Match was yet another cinematic pile of nonsense and nowhere even near the Boneyard Match.

No wonder ratings are in the toilet.

Edit: just seen a screenshot on twitter. I must have missed it when watching but you can see a fake eyeball through a hand....

I bought a CRT TV fairly recently and I genuinely haven’t noticed this. I’d actually forgotten it was even something CRT TVs did. My hearing must be terrible these days 😐

I actually could have hearing aids as my mid range tones (which most people speak at) is quite a bit under but for some reason my lows and highs are ok, which must be why I can still hear it. I can also just hear those things people put in their garden for cats to scare them off.

Such a bizarre sound to try and get used to again. For some reason I feel I can still hear it just now even although the TV has been off for a few hours.

What screen size did you get RedRooster? I wish I could have got something bigger but there were none locally and no way people could post them.

  20. So my CRT arrived. Hooked up the PS2 and the picture looks great and it is amazing how responsive it is with no lag.

A 14 inch screen is much smaller than I remember from my childhood but that's clearly because we were used to smaller TVs back then.

I do have one issue though that I totally forgot about. The high pitched sound that constantly comes off these TVs! I don't know how we put up with it and it is driving me slightly crazy. I would have thought with being older and my hearing being goosed I wouldn't hear it but nope there it is still high pitched, might have to just use this with earphones.

Another bonus aspect is DVDs look how they are meant to so putting on some WCW footage from the WWE DVDs looks tremendous. Hogan's god like tan in all its glory.

  21. The replay might just be for the UK to fill the time as the US have more and breaks.

What was so bad with this episode?

I gave up with WWE in the pandemic about two months back (apart from skimming through ppvs) as I found the lack of crowd and their trainee crowd shows unbearable. AEW I've stuck with longer however my interest has also fallen after the Stadium Stampede and I mainly just skip through that now.
