It'll be tricky for them. They don't have any monster heels on the roster for him to stand up to and he can't really do the every man under dog thing because he's kissed managements arses and he's very publicly the company favourite to lead the shows going forwards. I'm not really sure where there is to go with him that can maintain his current popularity.

I'd be utterly aghast if they tried to do another authority storyline anyway, it has to be the most played out scenario in wrestling. All that matters is compelling stories really, i don't think it matters too much if you know he's keeping the title, deep down. Since this title reign has been pencilled in for a long time apparently, I'm hoping they've got some good stuff planned.

EDIT: Why is this discussion in this thread of all places?

  2. Yeah, I picked that up last year or so thinking I'd whack it out after all the bug fixes and have a great time, but I pretty much hated everything about it. Boring missions, crap story, hated all the characters, constant introduction of features that aren't fun, and then don't seem to come up again anyway.

Wasn’t there a scene that was in the first episode of new Matt that the credits played over, or was post credits where they’re watching Roseanne (I think) and they started mocking a different actor playing a character. The other two said they hate it when shows do that and they should just write out the character then shoot death stares at Matt? Or have I Mandela’d that?

It's basically that, but I think it's Neighbours they're watching.

Van Halen Balance, something about this album cover, it's fucking strange but brilliant.

I know it's probably poor form to criticise other people's choices, and it's absolutely nothing personal, but I have to register that I hate absolutely everything about this.

I watched Top Gun Maverick for the first time last night, and thought it was bang average.

I have no real nostalgic connection to the original, so found a lot of it cloying and irritating. The action scenes were really impressive, but every character was irritating, none of it was believable, half the dialogue was clunky exposition, and I'm just utterly burned out on not on remakes and sequels per sé but on remakes and sequels that just obsessively fetishise the iconography of the original film. The film is full of lingering shots on Maverick's jacket, or anything else you might recognise from the original film, because REMEMBER TOP GUN?

I found it hard not to laugh out loud every time there was a photo of characters from the original film displayed on the wall - stills from Top Gun framed on the walls of Naval offices, or Maverick's locker door covered in photos of his old friends like he's a teenage girl - or every time characters in the movie recapped the events of the original in conversation; it's been thirty years, and none of these people have had a single new photograph taken, or had any of these conversations in the meantime. Outside of Val Kilmer's scene, which was at least genuinely moving though more for Val Kilmer's real life health issues than for any narrative significance, there's no sense that any of the characters from the original film had any kind of lived experience or internal life in the intervening thirty years. They just sat around waiting for a sequel.

As three stars a movie as ever exists, genuinely do not understand all the love it got on release.

The Bulgarian, Aoiyama, isn't retired although I was pretty sure he would.

I've just googled him, and blimey he's got a lovely pair of busters.

  7. As someone on here who's been a huge Cody fan since around the time of the first All In (I wasn't that interested in his original WWE run, ironically, I didn't think he had it as a singles wrestler), as you may imagine I was quite emotional watching this. I went to Wrestlemania last year in the hopes of seeing him win it in person, and even though I can't say I was there when he did win, it was so perfectly told that I didn't care. Teared up when Brandi came out, punched the air when Big Patch John's music hit, even popped for Taker in his skivvies. I was blubbing at the end. Wrestling, eh?

Loved all the little touches. My favourite small note that I'm not sure I've seen anyone mention was Roman doing the Cross Rhodes for a two and then saying something like "that moves sucks, doesn't pin anybody" only for him to be pinned by it in the end.

I've got really stuck into DS2 recently. I tried it years ago and it's slightly clunky feel and opening couple of areas put me off it, but I'm glad I've persevered as I'm rather enjoying it now. It makes me understand the criticisms of DS3 as just a of rehash of DS1 as there's loads of interesting, original stuff here, so if you were expecting something building on that from the sequel I can see why you'd be miffed. Not a fan of your heath shrinking after you die though, seems to run counter to the spirit of the game. And some of the deaths feel cheap as fuck. Good though.

Having now finished this, I've also got a sense of why it's quite unpopular. It's too long and very clunky in comparison to 1 and 3. Though I maintain the main things that I didn't enjoy was the lowering of your health when you die, and enemies disappearing when you've killed them a certain number of times. Those mechanics felt against the spirit of the games to me, that dying doesn't mean too much and you just pick yourself up and go again and again.

That said, it had it's positives, and I'm glad to have experienced it. I did stick on DS3 straight afterwards though and thought "this is so much better".

And marketable is different from being good. Brittany spears is marketable but there are much better singers than her.

You might want to update your pop culture references.
