  1. Enemies Closer

Watched Van Damme's latest today, directed by Peter Hyams (Timecop) and I really, really enjoyedit. Missus did too and its not usually her type but its only on for 80 odd minutes and moves at a nice pace so never gets boring. JCVD is great hamming it up as a baddie, he tries to be Ledger's Joker but comes across as Travolta's baddie in The Punisher at times but he's great all the same. The fight scenes are good to very good (JCVD has still got it).

Van Dammes best film since JCVD. Having Hyams directing helps. It'll no doubt be in Tesco/Asda for £3-4 in a month or too so snap it up.

  2. I'm watching my way through the old Raw's in sequence, including PPV's. I won't be bothering with any of the modern stuff like NXT to be honest.

Truly missing out there, Dave, NXT is much different than the rest of WWE's modern content. Yesterday's NXT Arrival show was awesome.

Because I'm the master of good timing, in the last six months I've been steadily collecting a hard drive full of WWE content, so there's a lot of awesome PPVs I've already got. Lister's suggestions of WCW shows intrigue me though, I was always a WWF/E boy. I'll co-sign the WWE suggestions there.

You can't really go wrong with a lot of WWE PPVs between 1998-2001. Other surrounding years had some great shows too, but to me this was the most consistently exciting time, rarely a dud from the ones I've seen. Survivor Series 98 was great fun with the Deadly Game tournament, Royal Rumble 2000, Backlash 2000, Fully Loaded 2000, No Way Out 2001, Invasion 2001 (about as good as WWE got the whole WCW/ECW storyline). 2002 was a bit rougher in some parts, but Vengeance 2002 (look for a young John Cena in wrestling tights), No Mercy 2002 (Hell In A Cell) and Survivor Series 2002 (first Elimination Chamber).

Raw from 98-99 are great fun to rewatch but a lot of the PPVs, save the main events, are an absolute chore to sit through again. Not until 2000 where the whole card often delivers.

  3. To keep muscle stiffness/soreness to minimum you must warm down and stretch, invest in a protein shake with added BCAAs and I swear by zinc and magnesium tabs before bedtime too.

Zinc and magnesium, for me, is the greatest supp, and I sleep like a baby when taking them, again key for recovery.

  4. Did Stone Cold ever wrestle Edge? I'm struggling to think of the two being together in any form ever.

I don't think they ever had a one on one, but they were on opposing teams on Raw at the start of 2001 (15th Jan):

Bradshaw & Farooq & Steve Austin Vs. Christian & Edge & Kurt Angle

EDIT: Here you go, they're in the ring together form about 34 seconds onwards, albeit briefly:

Oh right cheers, it seems strange thinking that they were on the same roster for 4 years yet hardly ever made an appearance together. I can't think that'd happen often now.

here they are teaming together in an eight man

  5. I'm so out of touch with ROH these days and one of my resolutions this year (a wrestling related one anyway) is to get back into the Indys. I know very little about recent storylines so should I just dive in with the first show of 2012 or does anyone recommend a starting point from 2011 to ease me in?

Also, I know this isn't the PWG thread but that's another promotion I really need to get back in to (more so than ROH) so the same question is posed for that promotion to. Ta.

ROH wise you could try and get the 9 A-shows mentioned by Big Benny HG a few posts above.

  6. Yeah, I'm about to put my order in for the 2011 shows, but there is no way I'm going for the full collection like I have to date. As I said in one of my reviews, ROH these days is all about the major 'A' shows and the weekly TV - the other live 'house' shows are pretty much inconsequential. I'm therefore planning on picking up the following:

    9th Anniversary Show

    Manhatten Mayhem IV

Honor Takes Centre Stage: Chapter One

Honor Takes Centre Stage: Chapter Two

    Supercard of Honor VI

    Best in the World 2011

    Death Before Dishonor IX

...plus Glory By Honor X and Final Battle 2011 when they are released.

The annoying thing is, if every DVD had that essential feeling of times gone by, I'd probably have signed up for ringside membership by now, as the extra 15% off merchandise would have made up for a significant part of what I was spending on the membership. The fact I didn't shell $60 for a year even when they were offering a free DVD with that, which would have been an immediate $20 saving, sure says something.

I got the ringside membership mainly because of the discount. I get ROH shows as soon as they are released, despite being a member for a few months I ve only made one order. Since then they have had some cracking deals, 50.12% off the other week, which I havent been able to cash in on because Im up to date DVD wise and dont need any of the best offs they are peddling.

  7. Just watched Jean-Claude Van Damme's latest movie Assassination Games, also starring Scott Adkins.

I really enjoyed it, being a huge JCVD mark makes me slightly biased, but its harmless fun with some enjoyable fight scenes. The acting is very hammy and the accents even more so, typical low budget filmed in Eatern Europe stuff but fun nontheless..

Having watched the greatness that is Kickboxer last night and there being no Italian football on tonight (damn MLS!) Im in the mood for another Van Damme treat, Cyborg or Hard Target?

  8. Aiston couldn't half run with the ball, but most of the time his crosses came to nothing. He was at City during one of their best footballing periods at the Deva, City played great football under Ratcliffe. Anyway, Aiston is now a school teacher

I did my degree up at Chester and we were regular visitors to the Deva Stadium in our first year. Great value then as it only cost us

  9. Sam Aiston.

What a blast from the past that is. Saw him when he was on loan from Sunderland to Chester City back in season 1996/7, and was pretty good at the lowest league level for Kevin Ratcliffe's boys.

    Romeo Zondervan

  10. As annoying as a lot of the posters are on the ROH forum is it wise to shut it down completely, its a good promotional tool isnt it?

I rarely ever posted on there but did visit the forum a lot, okay there was a lot of nonsense but it was a good place to keep up to date with goings on.

Im tempted to get membership just to get DVDs earlier and get the discount, the library doesnt interest me as I have most shows. A while ago Id have jumped on the yearly option, but I am a bit hesitant right now, as much as Im enjoying ROH I have a feeling its going to go in another direction as a company and not for the better, hopefully Im proved wrong there.

As of right now the site is down............already.

  11. I have to say that, Ladder Match aside, DBD 9 doesn't look much cop. Most of the reaction I've seen for Benjamin vs. Bennett has bordered on derision - justifiably so

yeah this might be the first ippv I miss, I have too much going on and its not a card that makes me want to make time for right now, so Ill wait for the DVD

  12. Recommedations - I really ought to do a new "Best ROH Shows Ever" I suppose. If you havn't watched since the TWC Days, that means 2004 right?

Ive never been a huge fan of the Bucks but their bout with Futureshock had the potential to be awesome, I was really getting into it and cant wait to see them go again. The Bravado's have been surprisingly fun and only add to a great tag division.

I guess we are spoilering for those who haven't watch Best In The World?
