That's very cool, but yeah I'd argue that's not really geared towards your average consumer/shirt wearer.

This article was an interesting read about higher end shirts and fashion brands etc.

    https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2024/apr/20/360-pounds-replica-football-shirt-luxury-sportswear

The one danger here is that clubs will see themselves being short-changed from what they're charging *right now* and jack up their prices in response. This is where the "not for your audience" argument falls on its arse as "the audience" is never a constant and the people who are paying what they can to follow their passion will lose out to people who pay 4x that just to look good in photos and get contracts to make that money back.

Yet another genre shift for the People's Game away from the people.

  2. TLDR the Cards are fucking mid. Which is an immediate improvement on last year.

In a bit more depth we've found a catcher who can hit almost as well as Yadi did, but he's the backup behind Contreras. Outside that our pitchers are giving up too many runs and we're still cooking LOBster for any team wanting to make their defense look good.

I read on Twitter (I know I know) the other day from Everton fans saying that if the title goes to the last day of the season and they are safe or relegated they want to lose 15-0 to Arsenal (who they play last game) to stick their fingers up to Liverpool and also the PremIer League (guessing because of the docked points).

Football is a funny old game.

    *Monkey paw curling*

Everton lose 15-0 to Arsenal and they finish 18th, and the dockside stadium is completed early for their opening game against the League One playoff winners Lincoln City.

Yeah that stood out to me too. Him chatting about "houses" made him sound a bit stuck in the past. AEW is essentially a TV company, not an old school wrestling promotion. Their still a young company and their entire business plan is built towards getting a big pay day in the next round of media rights as that's where the money is. They've been incredibly open about this.

And he left them to join a company that made its all-time most profitable year when not a single soul bought a ticket to attend.

  5. Today I learned that the National Lottery website has raised the minimum withdrawal to £10 from its online accounts, when the majority of prizes from the scratchcard and draws are well under that.

Fuck that noise, going back to the shops. At least I can win some mars bars without having to stack up for 8 packs. Dick move, that.

Great header on Sunday, though wasnt it?

He was way ahead of all of us on that curve.

EDIT: Mike Van Dijk would've been a killer comeback name, come to think of it.

  7. I'm busy for a variety of IRL reasons, so I need to drop out of this one. Sorry I couldn't keep up and my football-fu is way off.

Cheers for your hard work as ever Foggy.

It's been that way for a long time. My ex worked in Jersey's HMV, and they shut down not long before things started moving that way. The profit margins are so low on most of what they "traditionally" sell, that combined with declining sales in things like CDs and DVDs anyway, they were always trying to push into other areas to make money, and the worse things get, the more and more of the shop gets taken over by that stuff, until it's effectively a Funko Pop Emporium with a few records.

On one hand it's a shame, because smalltown teenage life pretty much revolved around bouncing between HMV and the skate shop, so there's a lot of nostalgia attached to it, but on the other hand, fuck 'em. There's a poetic justice to the likes of HMV struggling to stay relevant or to stay afloat while the kind of small record shops they ran out of business thrive.

If only that applied to film and TV as well. My ambivalence is that HMV is pretty much the only place to get first run TV & film in media without going though the Trotters Independent Traders that is Amazon 2024.

Like Wenger and Fergie, I just thought he’d be there forever. At least he was able to stop City winning it once.

We're halfway into the season and 'twice' isn't off the cards.

Because of what happened with Ashley Massaro. I'm never watching again.

Mostly the reason I quit, and I can't say I've missed a great deal since in the near 5 years without it. Even with the semantic argument of 'Netflix already gave them ten figures and I have no interest of helping them recoup that".

£6,354 for a table and chairs?! I suppose I should be grateful it's on sale for the "bargain" price of £2,495 instead.

Sounds akin to a shop called 'BoConcept' that ran scandinavian-style furniture in the middle of decaying Bristol. At scandinavian prices. After two failed shops they finally took the hint and found people with actual money up the road.
